I second this question.
"Meta" gets blurred more with every patch. Imho the only "meta" this game has is pinpoint damage and high heat/alpha builds.
Guides are fine for beginners, kudos for that.

These are primarily based on my own experience and opinions. I do consult with other people in areas that I'm weak in (I like bothering people like tfun, adiuvo and tweekn about lights, though they certainly aren't making the list and shouldn't be blamed if I ever get something wrong), but 90% is from me and there's nothing resembling a circle of players. this isnt some big project with lots of collaborators running the website, it's just me writing these posts.
but ya know what? I'm confident in my game knowledge, skill, and general intelligence. I'm normally very...well, humble ain't the right word but I hide my arrogance pretty well. However, in this case I made an exception, which I'll quote from my Portal page for the MWO Tier Lists
"I would like to make a note that applies to all of these Tier Lists. I have well over 2 years’ experience playing this game (the vast majority being competitively), I am an officer of +SJR+, I am one of the top players in the game (not only mechanically but also in terms of calling drop strategy and composing drop decks) and I’ve written many guides to and articles about this game. HOWEVER, I am human, and as such, am fallible. Don’t take anything in here as law, some of it may very well be wrong (some probably is wrong, just…not much). I am always open to feedback, criticism, and discussion, as long as it remains civilized."
If you've got a problem with anything in particular, I'd be happy to discuss it, and I will always readily admit when I'm wrong. But, it doesn't happen often.
As far as your concerns about a fluid meta, I completely agree. That's why I've got so goddamn many lists. I mean, it looks like I have 5 (which is already a lot), but 4 of those 5 have 4 lists within them (based on weight class or range). So that's really, like, 17 lists because the meta is so open at the moment. Despite being open, there will always be a best in each situation, and a best for if you don't know what the situation will be. Those two aren't the same thing anymore, so it's not like it was back in the days of Dragon Slayer or GTFO (though Timber Wolf or GTFO does sort of apply still...), but there's still a structure.
I also play at a very high elo, which lends me a somewhat unique perspective - when I PUG, a lot of the responsibility for whether my team wins or loses is on my shoulders, so I have to bring the best things most of the time or I'm not being fair to my teammates, which makes things like leveling mechs particularly painful for me because these aren't just words...I really do blame myself for most losses, even if I do top damage and kills and whatever else. It sucks sometimes, but it's the truth.
Anyways, I hope that's satisfactory and feel free to ask more questions if you have any.
