First, I thought, too many players want this downlod now... but, I have patch-server problems, with my other game too.. Could be, there is something with the EU-US data-line...

Me too. Looking at 90 mins to pull 10 mins worth of data. No problems previously.

In the UK, on BT.

Additional thoughts; many games find ways to

1 keep existing servers up, till their games finish.
2 provide content upgrades in the background, so as not to interrupt game-play.

In this age of virtualisation, those shouldn't be so difficult to implement, right?

Come on PGI.. I'm a fan of the game, and the new direction, but I really think there's room for improvement here.

The patches _DO NOT_ come from the game servers and are not indicative of the speed from you to our game servers.

When you download patches, you are downloading from a regionally local service node provided by Akamai. However, if this is the first time this, local to you, Akamai node has downloaded the patch it could end up being slow as our network pushes the patch content to the thousands of local nodes.

If you are not using an ISP DNS server, slow downloads are usually caused by Public DNS servers reporting you as located where the public DNS server is and not your true location.

If you use your ISP DNS servers, then the list of nodes to you is much more accurate and geographically closer.

Having worked both for an ISP and for companies making software with internet connections.... sometimes it not one end or the other but the route between them.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Looks like the first few in an area to grab it are going to get it set up to be a faster download for everyone else who tries much later after it has been downloaded to the local node. I supposed you don't want to do a general push to all the nodes if MWO isn't needed on them because no one in that area plays.

For the people experiencing slow download speeds, are you using the DNS servers your ISP gives you or have you changed it to public DNS services such as (Google, OpenDNS, etc)?

didn't change aynthing.

But it started to speed up now, still not the usual speed but better than half an hour ago.

I uninstalled MWO yesterday due to issues with the launcher and a few random crashed. Now trying to reinstall it and I can't even download the MechwarriorOnlineinstaller. It's stuck on 1% for the last 20 mins. I tried running the installer that was stored in my Downloads and it just launches the MWO symbol and then just hangs there. :-( I have 200mbit broadband.

Similar problem here. Also 200Mb and the patcher says it will take 14 hours to download 200MB.....

I have this problem with MWO also.
not only the download is rater slow, the patching takes FOREVER.
it's like the whole game gets downloaded and reinstalled or something.

I have installed 34GB application faster then patching MWO.

Downloading went fine, then when patching it ran out of space.

It now wants me to reinstall the whole game. I'm moderately upset. And running the repair tool.

I know your not blaming PGI for your Hard Disk space issues right? ;)
