In the UK, on BT.
Additional thoughts; many games find ways to
1 keep existing servers up, till their games finish.
2 provide content upgrades in the background, so as not to interrupt game-play.
In this age of virtualisation, those shouldn't be so difficult to implement, right?
Come on PGI.. I'm a fan of the game, and the new direction, but I really think there's room for improvement here.

When you download patches, you are downloading from a regionally local service node provided by Akamai. However, if this is the first time this, local to you, Akamai node has downloaded the patch it could end up being slow as our network pushes the patch content to the thousands of local nodes.
If you are not using an ISP DNS server, slow downloads are usually caused by Public DNS servers reporting you as located where the public DNS server is and not your true location.
If you use your ISP DNS servers, then the list of nodes to you is much more accurate and geographically closer.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense. Looks like the first few in an area to grab it are going to get it set up to be a faster download for everyone else who tries much later after it has been downloaded to the local node. I supposed you don't want to do a general push to all the nodes if MWO isn't needed on them because no one in that area plays.

not only the download is rater slow, the patching takes FOREVER.
it's like the whole game gets downloaded and reinstalled or something.
I have installed 34GB application faster then patching MWO.

It now wants me to reinstall the whole game. I'm moderately upset. And running the repair tool.
I know your not blaming PGI for your Hard Disk space issues right?
