I'm surprised I haven't seen any other threads about it. I'm loving the machine. It's pretty much the hardpoint layout I've always wanted on a Shadow Hawk.

I am enjoying it but I need to get through the basic skills and over an extended losing streak. Right now the mech feels like I am piloting a 70 toner instead of the agile medium I know it will be. <_<

If you like Shadow Hawks its just another one with more arm weapon hard points, so The Gray Death doesn't feel like its very special or new.

- Venting --

I kept getting the new Swamp Map a lot last night, which feels like favours anything that can hit hard and fast or is slow and heavily armed. The Gray Death isn’t really either of those. So a few games ended in my mech being ground into bits by Assaults since I couldn’t get out of the line of fire fast enough. (Tripping on trees or other crap the map is littered with)

The best game (/s) was when a player on my own team in a Dire Wolf decided to shoot off my arms and a leg because "I killed him in a previous match."

They sounds like the most underhivey underhive pilot ever. Is it possible that they're from a sub-underhive?

Seriously, who does that?

Indeed. Hell, if someone kills me in a previous match, I'm glad to see him on my team: At least I know he's moderately competent.

Some people have serious issues.

I honestly do not remember even killing him in a previous match. It was horrible, but several team mates watched him attack me, one off'ed him right afterwards. I tried to help out afterwards still about five members of our team were caught up in the Dire Wolves' antics so we pretty much got steamrolled :(

I had to look at my stats this morning to see how badly I did, 8/13 K/D with a 2/12 W/L. It was all around a bad night to be trying out a new mech let alone a mech from the Legendary Gray Death Legion.

I'm in this camp. I'll still run it, 'cause I like my SHDs, but it isn't all that different.

What? I can buld a Shadow Hawk that uses it's arms...That's crazy talk. Who puts weapons and armor in the arms? :)

I'm kidding of course, just my Favorite Shadow Hawk doesn't have anything in the arms :)

So, its almost identical to the Flame except 1 more missile hardpoint and jump jets. Be careful, they'll give it a quirk for LRM20s or machine guns.

Gauss on a ST with XL engine is a bit too much of a risk. The second I've already tried and it heats too much, even with Hit-and-Run tactics and the MPL's on chainfire. Perhaps, when the mech is fully Elited...
I'm running mine with AC10+4ML and XL300. Tried so many different builds, and the one with the AC20 is too slow (STD260) for me. I'm also thinking of, as soon as I get it Elited, of trying again with a UAC5 and 4xMPL... Well, that or 4xLL with no Ballistics or Missiles, just for giggles.

But the MPL has the same heat generation as the ML, and dropping to ML only nets 1 more heatsink due to slots.

Too much of a risk for you maybe; used to be me as well but I'm fairly comfortable with it these days.

You mean you want a Shadowhawk that's an imitation Wolverine or Griffin? I'm not a fan of cross pollenating the chassis. If a mech is 'known' for a particular thing then that mech should stick to that. If you want significantly different and compelling game play then go play a different chassis. That's what they're there for.

I realize my tone might be a bit harsh and I don't really mean it that. Just a matter of fact kind of thing. Why bother having multiple mechs in the game if you can get any kind of play style out of a single chassis?

I'm immune to harsh tone on the internet, because I care very little. ;-)

That said, if you're going to get bent - do so with a more open mind and not because you make assumptions - it's not worth it.

Did you read any of the "what I'd like to see in a SHD hero" threads? Ballistics in each torso maybe? Ballistics and energy in the LT (maybe one of each)? Right-side swap for the torso. Those are very SHD-like things that would be different than a 2D with one swapped hard point.

I've not found it a big deal on a SHD, the torsos hold up pretty well. I run my -2H with a Guass and I can't recall getting killed early due to it exploding.

I think I'd like this new hero, it looks very similar to the Dragon Flame which I really enjoy (Guass and 4ML). Except with JJ and better hitboxes. I'll probably pick one up in a few months when they go on a 50% sale. Just bought a Resistance pack so am tapped out for a while on this game.

Lol, totally not 'getting bent' I just realized what I typed might come off harsh and that's not what I feel at all. I make very few assumptions I wish to publicly share.

Nope, after having my hopes crushed for a Wolverine hero mech I stopped reading the other hero mech threads. Swapping the ballistic placement from left to right seems completely reasonable. I was thinking this was another 'I want a Sparky Shadowhawk' thread. Honestly, if I'm going to get bent over anything it's the Griffin hero, which isn't a Griffin at all... -_-

At least Sparky is on Sarna ...

A right-side swap or a combo Energy / Ballistic in the left would have been awesome.

Wow. I spent the evening captaining Team Derp. Clueless though the PUGs I played with were, none of them were douche-nozzles like that tool.

On a side note, I saw The Bog twice and both cases my team stood about admiring the trees while the other team killed 2 or 3. Pretty map, I like it, its got many challenges to sort out.

However I never saw one SHD-GD all night. I saw the LCT-PB every other match tho. I thought that was weird.

This was literally me all last night. Can't wait to get this thing up to speed. Same with the Pirates Bane.

EDIT: I'm running mine with Gauss and 4 MLs at the moment, once I get it elited I'll see about some more varied loadouts. Right now, its too slow and too hot.
