And by "tactical aid" you mean orbital bombardment from a Nightlord class battlecruiser, right? ;)

In case anyone is curious, the table top damage is 1400

Meaning it could kill a mech twice as big as the direwhale in a single shot and have around..200 points of damage left over.

Highly inaccurate against moving targets.... Didn't say anything about explosive ordinance, just a 90 ton slug....

Heeeeeeyyyyyyy, good bye base turrets. :D

Depending on the speed of the projectile, at 90 tons, you wouldn't have to be very accurate. A 90 ton kinetic weapon could destroy the whole area of the map easily.

You think artillery and air strikes are bad, hows a 90 ton projectile launched from orbit sound?

This is the ultimate Highlander burial.

HGN-733 with max XL engine and AC20 ammo loaded to all left critical points droped from 385km hight traveling on 60000kmph.

In MWO this is called MOAB.

I think we should let this in. It does cost 54,000,000 c-bills per shot after all...

This is what I thought of when I read it lol

It would obliterate your forces as well. An impact that large would destroy the entire map. It's worse then nukes were in MW2

The current rail guns in testing for the US navy fire a small slug at 2.4km/s, a 90 metric ton solid projectile travelling that fast, in a vacuum, would compare to a little over 61 tons of TNT, Little Boy was about 16 kilotons of TNT worth of explosion. To match that we need a 90 ton slug to be travelling at 38.57km/s.

Hmm the fastest man made object IIRC is Helios 2, going about 70.22km/s, how much energy are we talking if that weighed 90 tons? 53 kilotons worth of TNT...

Now, the calculations are solving for kinetic energy and represented by TNT to give an idea of how much energy it has, but that isn't to say it would make an explosion that big, as the energy release wouldn't be instant. It would most certainly end a match no matter where the red smoke is though.

Of course they could always use the Super Mac cannon from halo 2.
"These cannons fire a 3000-ton ferric-tungsten round at 119991698.32 metres per second. At 3000 metric tons (3'000'000 Kilograms), and using the formula KE = 0.5 * m * v2, then the energy of each shot should equal, 0.5 * 3'000'000 * 11'991'698.322, which equals 2.15701E20 joules of force. Given that a Kiloton = 4'184'000'000'000 joules, then 2.15701E20 / 4'184'000'000'000 is equal to 51'553'834.34 kilotons, which is 51553.83 megatons, or 51.56 gigatons of TNT." - quote from the wiki

Similar system, but the projectile isn't the size of a highlander, its the size of 30 Atlases or Direwhales.

Though I think people will want to keep the planet intact but space cannons

The only consumable we really need is a bulldozer to demolish those freaking statues on River City.

That is just the crater. Not the kill radius which is MUCH larger. The force of the shockwave so close to impact alone would pulp pilots inside their 'Mechs and turn solid stone to gravel.

That said destroying your own forces and the objective defeats the purpose of sending those forces in. An orbital strike used to destroy all forces on a battlefield is an expression of the ultimate tactical and strategic failure for the side using it.

The projectile is actually seen ingame, its roughly a little larger than a spartan. Super MAC Cannon platforms are a terrifyingly lethal weapon. Even if something were to block the shot, it would vaporize because of the sheer thermodynamic energy released from the impact. Its also fun to note the speed of the slug is around 4/10ths the speed of light.
