I finally picked up my first wolf, I'm one of those who have loved the mech's silhouette for decades so it was a must have for me. I picked up the prime and I've tried a few loadouts but I seem to be having trouble getting handle on it. I was using a penta-pulse stormcrow to grind out the cbills for it, I was hoping I could transition into a pure energy build on the wolf once I got it, but it just isn't clicking.

I've tried quad Med Lasers/dual LLas, medium Hexa-Pulse, Quad Med Pulse/dual streak 6, even tried quad Large Pulse Lasers (I even managed a kill before I exploded myself!). But it just feels off, maybe I got to used to the crow, but the Timber feels sluggish (as you do when you drop 25 kph) and the side torso's feel a lot more fragile than I thought they would (which I'm not sure why this surprised me, I've never really felt like I had the level of trouble with wolves that the forum would suggest I should have).

Obviously it's not a fault with the mech, just the pilot and not having found a suitable build yet but anyone have any thoughts? I've basic'd the mech already since I do ok in it, but 30 odd million more cbills to elite it is a long way off.

I don't run the laser vomit builds anymore in the TImberwolf since it can carry Dual PPC/Gauss. Much less "face time" all pinpoint damage. I run it on my prime with all the stock omnipods. I still have one of my TBR-Cs set up for laser vomit but I rarely uses it anymore.

Use that 375XL to your advantage and corner peek. the hardpoints are too low to hill hump but corner peeking is effective.

Doesn't the firing delay on the gauss make this build sub-optimal? I used to run this on a Catapult a long long time ago, before it came into vogue. I do have a gaming mouse but it doesn't have macro functionality.

4 medlas and 2 large pulse is the way to go. Group up the meds in pairs and use pulse as 3rd weapon group.

fill up with Heat sinks, enjoy.

There are quite a few build discussions on the Timberwolves and that's one of the things I love about them, they have SO MANY options for good builds no matter what your play style. Brawlers, Support, Sniper, LRMs. I was grinding for a month to get my 50 million C Bills to get all three elited and I'm trying lots of builds. The Timbers don't come into their own till you Elite them, only THEN do they become gods.

I kinda like the 2x CLPL 5x CERML but not as much as the mixed builds. Here's a variation with 1x CERPPC, 2x CLPL, 3x CERML. Here's a 7x CERML build that I tried a couple of times, it's good but hot.

I have a 3x CUAC5, 2x CERML that is mega fun or the 2x CUAC10 1x CERLL, 2x CMPLs
1x Gauss, 1x CER PPC, 3x CERMLs build is a really good one, or the original slightly nerfed meta 2x ERPPC 1x Gauss

I have 11k hits with the C-Gauss so I'm very used to the charge up time. I don't find it to be a hindrance at all.

What's funny is that even with the slow travel speed of the C-ERPPC my accuracy with them has now caught up to my Gauss accuracy even with the same number of hits/shots fired--probably because if it is a really risky shot I tend to only try to hit with the Gauss.

The bottom line is the laser vomit builds spread damage (even if you do all that you can, the enemy can still maneuver/torso twist) and require more face time. The first time I tried 2 x C-ERPPC/1 x C-Gauss it was like a revelation--instead of 500-700 damage and 0-1 kills and 6-8 assists I started consistently getting 3-6 kills for that same damage and I've never looked back.

Also with the laser vomit builds you can get into heat trouble and while two PPCs are hot enough to do that as well at least I have the Gauss to fire while I'm waiting for the heat to get back to 50%.

Kain I'm starting to really like that build myself, just started playing it the last few days and just had a 6 kill game (262,359 C-Bills didn't suck either).
