Simple.

What is the point of gates in Community Warfare if defenders AND attackers can literally walk right over them?

I've seen this on Boreal and Sulfurious Rift.

Jumping over gates is fine; using terrain to simply walk around and over the gates makes them useless.

Greetings,

The gates provide a blocking obstacle to everything without jump jets.
- Normal wheeled or tracked elements would be stopped and need to deal with this obstacle.

It's not always about 'Mechs only when the maps are designed, there are 'future' units to be introduced.
(and currently being worked on. Ai type of units, wheeled, tracked, and ground elements.)

- As we progress further into CW and the telemetry accumulates for PGI, about each map, changes can be made.
- We've already seen some of these with the move and number of generators present.
- As well as the actual terrain elevation being altered inside the Base areas, added height and moved ridges.

But you are correct in identifying the gate ramp areas being somewhat 'one-sided' against the Defenders.
- Even ancient Castle defences placed the ramps 'Inside' the walls, not outside for the attackers to see and fire over the walls.
- The only 'solution' would be for PGI to build destructible objects for the gates or barriers, and eliminate the reversed ramps we see now.
(This type of object state was being worked on by PGI. They stated they had completed some objects that were destroyable in-game, seem to remember it was a bridge. Smaller objects were also being constructed with multiple damage states.)

It's still early in the development of CW, with only three maps.
(and very little time finding problematic issues with the first two.)
- we still have issues with the normal maps, and not enough resource time for PGI to devote to correcting and seeing some form of 're-vitalizing' these early maps.
- The latest from PGI indicates they have streamlined the map production quite a bit, allowing for much quicker design and building. This alone may lead to some 'time on target' at the older maps and changes to the CW builds.
- And one of the reasons we see the Beta listed on CW, allowing us the time to actually 'try to break' these maps so they can be fixed or corrected.

Aim True and Run Cool,

The gates are a chokepoint. They are not meant to actually keep people out, per say. Just to funnel them into a small defensible area.
