Greetings,

Has anyone come across info regarding captured battlemechs? They were a key part of previous Mechwarrior titles and capturing some mechs were considered a status symbol. This is especially true when the Clans invade. For obvious reasons the IS will not have access to Clan Mechs or Weaponry when they finally do invade and the only way logically to receive one would be to capture it. (Headshot)

There would still be drawbacks to captured Mechs as any weapons destroyed would have to be replaced with IS versions unless a system of salvage is put in place. I hope it isn't just C-bill rewards as you can't just go to IS MART and pick up a Madcat with C-bills when your in the IS. I know Clans are a ways away but I also like the idea of capturing IS Mechs. Hmm.... Or at least give us access to special skins if your not going to fork over the mech. Pilots, especially Mercs, wouldn't likely walk away from a good mech and it would be unrealistic to assume that Mercs would always accept contracts that gave up the right to salvage. I'm not necessarily saying that another player should lose his mech permanently but the winner should receive a beat up chassis to fix up in the mech lab.

Curios to what your thoughts are on this. Should captured battlemechs be implemented?

If you want to lose your founder mechs then be my guest i'm not against it. :(
Usually the coins have two sides y'know.

Then again it has been said that you can't capture mechs in MWO.

This would be a very cool idea... perhaps it could be done but the mech would require a large amount of C-Bills to "repair" it... I'm sure there would be issues but it should definately be given a serious look.

Basically it's to stop packs of griefers deliberately gang-bang legging other mechs for salvage while ruining the game for others who are actually trying to win the games actual objectives. Also stops people from losing mechs and not being able to play the game at all, even for a short time. No play, no pay.

I did not pay $120 to lose my atlas in it's first battle.

You will get C-bills for the weapons/mechs you damage or destroy you will not get mechs, weapons or equip as salvage.

That will never happen.

Yar, no salvage ..... no captured Mechs .... lil sad it won't be in game, but I fully understand why it wouldn't work very well.

As far as immersion and having it make sense why you would leave salvage you can just think of it as automatic liquidation of salvage into c-bills after each match. Every pilot has a personal salvage broker :(

I greatly enjoyed salvage in previous iterations of the game, but honestly, I think this is the right choice to simply make it a market for parts and mechs and make rewards a matter of cash. More fun for all.

They might do a thing like the Battlefield 3 dog tags, where killing a mech in a certain way will give you a status mark that doesn't directly take away from the opponent's experience. Like, maybe if you shoot out an opponent's cockpit, you get to display their sigil in your profile or whatever. The whole "cutting off an ear" thing has been around for a while in gaming and I can see how it would add competitive flair, especially in the BT universe.

Tbh, are there going to be solo missions? Im sure not everybody wants to join in with other players, no other MMORPG forces you to do this, prehaps when your on your own and against NPC forces a salvage option can become available?

its not an mmorpg, it´s an mmo mechbattle sim... it´s about PvP in the first place...IF there will EVER be pve in some way, that´s up to the devs to look into it for future content...

Okay, I can see someone not wanting to lose their precious Founder's Mech. I suppose you always need at least one mech. However, that doesn't keep them from having a beat up chassis appear in your inventory when you beat someone. Perhaps you have to use C-Bills to unlock it and repair it. Abandoning kills just breaks immersion as I find it hard to fathom warriors (Especially IS) leaving Clan Mechs or expesnsive IS Mechs laying around on the battlefield. Its like driving by in a Camaro and coming up on an abandoned Bugatti Veyron and just leaving it there. Why?

Plenty of games are online-only. Look at TF2. It was years before any sort of bot support was added.

Mayhap eventually there will be PVE elements to the game - maybe periphery missions or something. But right now it is all PvP all of the time.

I personally would like this, however I am almost sure it would not be implemented by PGI.

Can you imagine having your prize fighter Mech being commandeered as a part of the spoil of wars? Picture your best Mech that has all your favorite and most expensive weapons and upgrades, and personal trinkets and trophies in the cockpit, with a custom paint job etc. I can already see the amount of QQ threads in the forums already... no way. Maybe in a special hardcore mode or something? Maybe. :(

The hardpoint system already cuts down on customization and the ability not to salvage mechs and parts restricts customizing mechs even more. I'm not a fan of stock mechs. I'd rather see this game evolve rather than devolve into some sort of PvP shooter that resembles nothing like the TT version. I think PvP is awesome. Just... I'm not into forced play styles and the original TT and earlier versions of Mechwarrior gave you a lot of freedom customization. The everybody has to be in the same kind of mech doesn't really scream Mechwarror unless your referring to the Microsoft version shooter. When everyone has the same stuff then it becomes predictable and thats one thing the Mechwarrior game should not be.

You could get the wrecked chassis to rebuild as a prize but the player keeps their mech for repiar also with an unlock feature in place somehow so there would be some form of salvage, but the credit/XP way seems like a better idea anyways, just my 2 cents, lol,,,

It not just chassis salvage that would be nice. Say you had a favorite IS Light Mech and filled the sniper role. It would be handy to salvage a Clan ER PPC. Admittedly, I don't think it should be a common occurrence because eventually you would just have all IS mechs outfitted with Clan Tech and that wouldn't be right either. However, I would like the possibility of acquiring rare tech after a significant amount of gameplay. It should be earned. Just C-Bill awards doesn't quite feel satisfying when you successfully take down a superior lance or star with your team.

I wouldn't want to lose my mech in the normal game modes but it would be cool if there was some kind of "Hardcore" mode you could go into if you wanted to participate in a match that allowed mech capturing.
