I'm just gonna shamelessly steal this sugestion from another thread about a new Battle Summary UI (which I endorse btw but somehow think that it won't make it very high in the to do list) so this, that was not that topic's focus, gets its own topic to be discused.

As stated the proposal is to charge a small penalty for friendly fire, and before you begin raging I'd like to stress SMALL or rather small .

I propose 100 C-Bills per damage point.

Acording to a recent challenge that showed frienly damage I saw that in most games I do some friendly damage (some laser scrapes and that sort of thing) in most games it is like in the 0-10 dmg point range with ocasional spikes as high as 20-40. In conclusion if you are a carefull player about not hiting friendlies like I am most of the time the penalty will be negligible and when you screw up and hit someone for good well 4000 C Bills are noticeable but not crushing. Now if you don't particularly care if you hit friendlies or are one of those trolls that start TKing out of spite or whatever your penalty will be far higher. In general the penalty will be very small, yet it will send the message that it's better to avoid it hopefully reducing rage team kills along.

How about no.

Honestly I have so many idiots that blatantly walk in front of me or run though a very obvious bright blue laser beam that I don't feel like getting penalized for their stupidity.

Also I have pulled stupid, bone head stuff like this myself where I was that idiot and don't feel they should be punished for my stupidity either.

Don't get my wrong, there are plenty of idiots that are blatantly stupid and fire through their own team to get a kill or whatever but since you can't separate those idiots from the other idiots like I mentioned above, it is best just to leave it alone.

Yes. Just because you have to watch your fire.

No. Just because of the guys that are running around like headless chicken.

Might be better put in the feature suggestion threads

Would be nice to see that on a test server I guess
Though the group que tends to have a lot less friendly fire (well talking from my perspective)
I'm sure the solo que could use an incentive like that

Err
Well why not try it on a test server and see how people react

Well if you have a Large Laser fired on an enemy; burn time is a few seconds, a light swooshes by and catches some fire
For how much damage?
A second to go through the beam?
Like 3 points of damage or so? Less than 500 C-Bills?
Ultimately for those that can pilot they're mechs it won't be a big hit?
Maybe raise the income for something more teamwork in return?

Heh, but I do know what you mean
I had team kills because a "smoking like crazy" light just HAS TO run through the crossfire.

To my understanding, the damage stat subtracts all team damage dealt from the damage you dealt to the enemy.

Regardless, the penalty is rather minimal... and not just the damage C-bill bonus.

Never negate C Bills in this game... Paul Economics nerf it every Sept.... we dont need another nerf in C Bills...

How about a minor or significant bonus for NO Team damage? or Even XP bonus...

I 90 percent Pug in this game and I am doing FF every game because of Tards.... dont penalize me for their retardation

If someone crosses your line of fire bear in mind a few things:

1: Perhaps the line of fire being yours is not so clear cut.
2: The person geting shot is already geting a negative feedback for doing so, so it's not like he does it for pleasure or is going to keep doing it just to screw you.
3: I insist, the penalty is minimal, it is not there to make you lose Cbills, but to make you (us) be more mindfull of friendlies before firing.

IMHO, the penalty should by higher, maybe 1000x damage.
Also c-bills taken from the miscreant should go to the victim, as compensation.

Well first of all I think rewards are way too low as is so ANYTHING that lowers rewards is bad.

In that tourney we had were the results actually displayed team damage I averaged 9 team damage per match which I consider pretty good. Still that is 900 C-bills lost each and every match on average.

Also even say someones average was 50 team damage per match, do you really think 5,000 C-bills would deter them from bad play? Honestly probably not.

If you raise the rewards on something else by an equal amount, sure. Otherwise, no. I don't want to be penalized for people who "accidentally" (or not) walk in front of my firing line, and I'm fairly certain that teammates of mine feel the same way when I make the same error.

I said once before, there can be no penalties of any kind until FF can be avoided.

At this moment, it is absolutely impossible to avoid team FF. It can't be done.

The best thing is to hope you don't get whacked by a teammate if they are behind you.

In every match, I have to raise my aim above my teammate because they moved in front of my longer burning lasers.

You can only say in team chat to be careful of friendly fire and watch your spacing.

Not really sure what positive effect it would have on the game. A large group of people are so self-centered that all they think about are kills and damage. I've lost count of the number of times a teammate gets in front of my line of fire because they feel hungry for a kill.

Heck just this weekend I had a medium junk in front of my atlas in a tunnel while I'm engaging a direwolf less than 50 meters apart. I have the DW almost cored and am literally hitting my alpha-strike button to make sure I finish it off. (1AC20, 4SRM6, 2MPL) A medium jukes around me, right in front of me to try and get a killshot. No time for me to hold fire, the weapons are already cycling. The entire alpha goes into his back CT and cores him. He is so close to my faceplate that the SRMs have no room to deviate!

I already received the -10k cbill penalty for "teamkill", wasn't much I could have done to stop it. On the flip side, it was pretty darn funny, the direwolf pilot got a chuckle out of it.

On one hand I think players are way too sloppy with their aiming, and there should definitely be a monetary incentive to not shooting your allies. On the other hand, I don't want to encourage people to unintelligent charge in front of allies blocking their lanes of fire.
I think mabye a 1,000 C-Bill penalty per point of damage for the first 2 minutes of a match only.
