Games have queues where you are automatically put into a group which is what happens here in MWO, but a lot of people have trouble forming their own groups for events and doing stuff in the group queue so maybe a system where people can queue up to be put into groups for the group queue (and maybe CW) can be added?

It'd go something along these lines:

1) Leader creates a group and invites his friends.
2) Leader then opens up the group for others to join.
3) Players who want to be part of a group queue up for group system and are allocated to groups looking for more members.
4) Group leader launches when group is full.

Just give the group leader the ability to put some settings:

Non-cadets only
Cadets only
Mech must have DHS
No trial mechs
Trial mechs only
Mech Basics filled
Mech Elite filled
Mech Master
Mech has modules
Player is of a specific Faction
Clan mechs only
IS mechs only

And a bunch of other things.
