Oh and I didnt assume a light mech. The highest armor any mech can have in the head is 8 points plus 3 of internal structure, from a locust to an Atlas, thats why a clan PPC or Gauss to the cockpit is an instant death hit.. Four hits from an AC2 to the head and no armor. 2 more and dead head. Rate of fire will likely be much higher for the lighter less damaging weapons. I wouldnt be surpised if it fires every 2 seconds.

I now think this argument is less about the actual viability of any given weapon and more the issue of
"I think such and such; there fore it should be banned/should be in the game etc"

Well here is the rub. Just because you think something is rubbish (or equally a great idea) doesn't not mean it should or shouldn't happen.

it's amazing the power of the words "I think..." or "I am of the opinion.." can do to alter the nature of a post; suggestions are good, outright declarations are not. Especially when such things are negative.

It was a potentially interesting subject to discuss. Now it's likely to get locked down tight.

So well done there.

AC/2 could potentially be the most powerful weapon in the game.

Just depends on how fast a cycle time the devs give it.

There's nothing wrong with the weapon, and I'm sure it will stay.

I wanted to try and see things from your perspective Future Perfect. So i read all your posts in this thread and you didn't document where you got this 2 damage points per 10 seconds.

Where did you get it? From the way i see it there are four different ways you could get it.

1) Your in beta and the AC 2 performs like this. You are walking a fine line of breaking the NDA if this is the case.

2) You're making a theory based on the fact that the developers are sticking close to the TT rules and you believe one round is equal to 10 seconds.
Where did you get this fact?

3) You played an old MW game where the AC 2's fire rate was veeeerrryyy low. Funny thing is that i don't remember a single MW game where the AC 2's fire rate was so low.
What is the name of this mystery MW game?

4) There is gameplay video that i'm not aware of or maybe you gained this knowledge through leaked beta information.
If it is leaked beta information you're doing something wrong.

And why not since everything else is close to the TT rules probably because the licensing agreement sais so.

And that's my assumption of the licensing agreement.

Ah...thank you for your answer. Now if you take a look at the different gameplay videos you're going to notice a few things.
Here is a link for your convinience- MechWarrior Online - Assault Mech Developer Breakdown

Notice how all the different weapons have different fire rates? You can really see the difference at 1:33 --- 1:40 in the above video.
See how the AC 20 fires before the medium lasers and yet those 4 medium lasers almost manages to recharge fully before the AC 20 is ready to fire again.
The AC 20 was 1/3 through it's reloading cycle when those lasers fired....

Noticing how wrong you are?

Or thay may work like in MW:LL where the RoF is quite high. good against soft targets and light armour. (And aerospace but I don't think that would be in)

ERLL: 5 tons. 19 maximum range. 8 damage/hit.

Clan ERPPC: 6 tons. 23 maximum range. 15 damage/hit.

And the LB-2X autocannon doesn't exist for the IS until 3058.

It's why the HSR-200-D Hussar carries a Laser instead of an Autocannon.

Sure... when I can take 6 hits from an AC/2 before it's gone, I'd much rather worry about whatever packs a Large Laser or PPC of any kind - two hits to my CPit from those and it's gone.

Why not? well, there is a saying about never assuming...And you seemed to take issue with assumptions not 2 pages ago.
The TT was the start of the process, not the end. If every gun was able to fire only once every ten seconds like the table top suggests, then the weapon balance of this game would be so far off it would be inherently unstable. It would implode, I would imagine.

There are many many things that have had to make way for the computer game to make sense; the 10 seconds a turn is something that was used, it seems, to educate relative speeds, but in terms of actually actioning something; being permitted to do something (like fire guns, turn RADAR on or off etc) you couldn't possibly limit in that bracket.
some things have to alter from TT to make the game work. rate of fire, I would imagine, would be somewhere near the top of the list.
