Is there an actual reason why we do not have these as options to the eternal 12vs12? Breaking up the scale of battles by lances makes sense, doesn't it? Big battles are great but some maps are really small and would be a lot more interesting with less mechs on the field. The option to make a private match is set up wierd. Why can't you fight 1vs1 with someone? Is the sole reason bandwidth? To me, this one seems like a no brainer. The only chance you ever get in this game to meet other players is either on these forums, or in the midst of battle. While lobbies and VOIP have been beaten to death, alternate ways for creating situations where you can actually get a chance to know your lancemates and have an opprotunity to gather with players who do not drive you batflappin insane seems the way to go. This seems to me to be an easy and viable way to make such more feasible. Any thoughts?
Assuming command of a lance should be done BEFORE the game is started not during the powerup phase, it should give you the power to pick and choose when you want to recruit or boot, between battles. A way for a lance to stick together between multiple battles would be nice too. Ideas?

I'd settle for River city and forest being bumped back to 8v8

Server utilization maximization reasons, is I believe the stated reason why it's 12v12. Russ' said that might change in some cases, probably for newbies in particular, but don't count on 12v12 changing.

I realy would like to see small group battles, even lance vs lance.
It's much easier to do a 4 men group and coordinate with TS.
And that's why group queue is not that different from pugland.

I would love if the game randomized 4v4, 8v8 or 12v12 - obviously the group queue players might have to readjust into lances only, but the majority of players would get a benefit

4v4 as an option would be great however there should be a tonnage limit so it isn't just 4 Assaults vs 4 Assaults all the time.

Reality check: private matches, if they were truly private rather than run through company servers, would require precisely zero resources on the backend (it'd actually reduce the server load, since user information would have to be stored clientside rather than serverside- the main difficulty then would be controlling clientside cheats, which is a different can of worms). The primary reason to structure the game otherwise is to milk customers for money to run "private" games... and, shocker, that's exactly how it's being done. No biggie; it's F2P and they've gotta make money every way they can... and I'm running premium so I could do private drops if I wanted anyway.
As for smaller games in general, sure... I'd love to; I wasn't here for those days and some of the maps seem to be very poorly suited to 12v12. Not as an option or anything... just a random chance, say 25% or so, of dropping 8v8, and another 15% of 4v4. That way the majority of matches would still be run with larger teams, with enough smaller games for variety (and sanity checks on the too-small maps like RC and Forest).
*edit* Hell, those could even be runoff options for long wait times- if MM can't find you a 12v12, it could put together an 8v8 instead. Would ease headaches across the board, no?
