looks awesome - would really ad to the feeling of being in the mech cockpit. Thing is - how much of an advantage would this give vets who were prepared to spend the time and money on using this over a drop in newbie?

I am hoping this kind of stuff will be implemented, would be great if they had pre-programed scripts to output to stuff like the thrustmaster MFD and the saitek control panels and gauges. Now they did "HINT" at working with some of the major controller company's but never actually said anything on what they are or who they are and what they are going to do, But I am extremely hopeful! Cause I would so very much build a simpit for this game and just have a endless nerdgasim.^_^ There was another thread on a subject similar to this and there were several links posted of peoples simpits and all I can say is DAMN!

So here's Hoping!

This would crush the game into oblivion with lag, these are single instances of a game running on a PC, doing this on the server (so you're talking 15-20 people per instance, with all of those custom mappings in each specific cockpit).

And you want it to run on older computers? Probably not going to happen to this extent.

It would be awesome, but I'd rather have awesome gfx outside the cockpit (e.g. weapons/ammo/missle effects, weather, npcs, etc.) you can only add so much before the game starts to grind to a halt.

maybe they should start selling MWO helmets with this stuff already built in (make sure mine has 2 cup holders on either side with connection straws please).

oldie but a goodie; EarthSiege 2 had a full clickable cockpit back in 1995
and it was awesome, don't know why they never tried with any of the MW games.
so much easier to set waypoints, and command your squad when you can use
your HDD tac-map and mouse.

Probably the same reason why they dropped it again for StarSiege.

Yes, Metro, but what did that actually add to this conversation? We all are collectively in the dark about this matter, but what exactly does posting that in every speculative topic you come across accomplish? Is it really necessary to pop into an intelligent conversation and tell us that we don't know what the game will be like?

Done properly, it should have no effect on other players (ie. lag) in multiplayer at all. It's not causing problems for other players in DCS: Black Shark or DCS: A-10C Warthog, for instance. The only person it might slow down is the user themselves (taking their hands off of their controllers to tap their touchscreen). It should have no effect at all upon the netcode.

A clickable 3D cockpit will open this game up to more ways that it can be played. It's the sort of thing that turns home cockpit builders loose... which will be a good thing when the videos start showing up on Youtube for other potential players to gawk at and drool over.

yeah I agree, and with the prior post states I agree with too, if this was done server side it would be a instant fail. it would HAVE to be a client side application running, Much like all the simpit guys have with their custom systems. at some point I would like to see this available with this game. hopefully something developed by MWO Devs. a nice little app that each person can have the choice to enable or leave disabled. i would think Disabled by default would be proper as i dont see a ton of people going out and dropping money on building a simpit, but i know there are SOME.^_^
And yes Metro this is pure speculation of hope nothing more.:(

I think it will ad some skill variable to the auto targeting missiles, the mind work required to fight and control the commands can be the difference between live and death.

Speculative = yes

We dont know nothing about it for now = yes too.

About vets and news... well training can be part of the game too, i spent very fun hours doing ramp starts and launch protocols in my falcon!

let us have fun talking about it.

He has read the same posts 10 times now for a lot of topics. That and he had to figure out a way to pass me in posts. ^_^

But to add to the topic.

I think they do plan on inplimenting clickable cockpit parts, as iirc they have stated that a lot of the cockpit will be working information displays, ohh what was their word for it... I think we can see some interesting things with these cockpits.. and with FD doing the concept art for them... (i tried to find his image of a cockpit... but had troubles. Maybe someone can link it for me.) these cockpits will be simply amazing in themselves... and my hope is fully functional!!

In DCS if you weren't hardcore enough for the cockpit and start-up there was an "easy start" mode as well. I think those of us that want a more sim-like enviroment should be able to have that while the point-an-clickers have fun too. I don't think it should be a huge advantage to "know how the mech works" but I do think it should be able to customize the experience somehow.

Why would you play open Falcon when you can play Falcon BMS 4.32? Check it out, massive awesome.

I'm all about a clickable cockpit. We'll see though... mech action is usually pretty furious.

A clickable cockpit wouldn't add as much to MWO being an immersive experience as much as say good systems failure modeling or exterior damage modeling or UAV's flying around transmitting info to mech forces. So I guess I'm trying to say that a clickable cockpit, while nice, is kinda further down the list of desired features. It would seem that MWO is on a fast track if they are to truly release it this coming summer. And just considering there wishlist it doesn't seem realistic that everything will make it into the game by then.

And just for the record I used to be a huge flight sim nut and enjoyed the hi-res cockpits. The clickable part was cool but some of the cockpits that were made for F4 were just astonishing.
