The monitors in the cockpit still don't do anything, is it safe to say they never will? It looks stupid and anybody who sees the game mentions it.

Remember this?

Stop bringing this up. It makes me sad every time.

Would have been totally awesome. They can't make it work.

at least change the generic "Auto Detect: NO" to some nonfunctional display....fake map coordinates, fake gauges, fake mech readout, fake comstar news feed, fake grocery list, anything....just...ANYTHING.....

or even, monitize it, make screens alterable as "cockpit items"

They can't put anything besides an (AUTODETECT NO) jpeg on them? They don't have an art guy that can knock out like 6 different static screens during his lunch?

It's not like the buttons are functional.

2 min on a public domain image site. 4 min in ms paint.

Why can't they make it work? (I'm not 'disbelieving' you I'm genuinely curious). Also - to quote Archer - "CAN'T OR WON'T?!"

Some of the monitors actually do work (the one that scrolls slowly through your mech components and counts remaining ammo works, as does the one that keeps track of your functioning heatsinks - they start off yellow and turn red if destroyed), which suggests to me that they can make it work, they just have chosen not to.

I'd love to see more equipment status monitors personally.

I don't know his meaning but PGI is notorious for being completely unable to work on more than one thing at a time.

Well, it's all relative. It turned out to be harder than they thought, apparently, so they stopped working on it. The method they tried initially was one of many things that lowed FPS, apparently. And the HUD is already a considerable FPS drain.

So I guess the answer is "won't", because it's something that takes a lot of work and brings zero ( $ 0.00 ) revenue for them. So they'll just work on the Clan hero mechs instead.

I can understand the FPS drain issue. The monetization issue is something else, as I can easily think of ways to make money off the monitors (sell custom displays in the shop for MC - have them display things like the HP status of your weapons, with different brand names EG: Deathgiver AC/20: 10 / 15 HP Remaining, or have them in different colors / languages).

and when they do implement it, please make it an option to keep it turned off.

I'll buy another gold mech if they add a "realism" mode that removes the HUD, or has very limited HUD elements and puts the rest of the info (read: the important info) on the cockpit monitors.

Heck, throw in 3d support with head tracking to make it easier to check said monitors in any given mode, not to mention look around the cockpit. And no, not the biggest sellout in recent gaming history that was supposed to be open source then openly accused every single PC user of being a pirate support. 3d support. Bonus points if zoom module only zooms in for one eye and keeps the head tracking for the other so you can look around and admire your coffee mug's steam particles while sniping a dude from across the map with an ER PPC. I mean gauss rifle. I mean... What the hell can you even snipe with anymore?

Yeah, the monitors are working just fine. Seems the mech manufacturers just forgot to plug them in.

If they aren't functional why don't they remove them from current mechs and stop adding them in new mechs?

I think the HUD overlay took place of many of the usees the screens were for. Unfortunatly the HUD is a resore hog and now the screens are worthelss.

During the challenge this weekend one of them was displaying your "Mission Kills". I'm assuming this was just a kill tracker so people knew if they had a kill so they could bloody run off and freaking hide and cost you the match.

In closed beta, one tracked your heat sinks, and would mark them red if they were destroyed, another one tracked the ammo in each location on your mech so you knew where you had ammo.

Its a problem with CryEngine 3..... Honestly wish PGI never used it.... They've had so many problems adjusting and learning at the same time to make a Battletech Robot game with the engine.

Is there a way on the client side to add your own pictures or JPG to the image? I would rather have a picture of my dog than the Auto Detect garbage I"ve been seeing for almost 2 years.

Just have it flash red and blue colors with the words "Stay focused!" flashing in contrast to the colors around it. Perfectly safe plan that will sure put many people at ease knowing that those screens have a purpose now.

There is head tracking. My TrackIR lets me constantly look around my cockpit or out side windows.
