I've had the Muromets ( only Hero ) for ages and I'm finally looking to elite the chassis. Just bought a 4X, and starting to save for a 3D. I have some ideas I'm looking for sanity checks on that I couldn't find quite exactly listed anywhere, please.
4X: Master Shake
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8941a777cf4769a
Probably fairly crazy. The intent is pure suppression fire with the left and right arm on separate triggers and chainfire for a 5 pt screen shake hit every .5 seconds, supported by a constant tiny stream of LRM's for warning klaxxons. Played 1 game so far. Lost, but only one opponent didn't back down under fire. ( I was surrounded by then anyway )
3D: Slugshot
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e6d4d8591e08292
The untested idea here is nearly matched projectile speed shots giving a 20 point buckshot followed immediately by a 10 point ERPPC hit. Weaponry concentrated in the right side for Centurion style combat. Single ML as backup.

I bought the mastery pack and after mastering them, I really disliked the 3D and 4X and ended up selling them off so I could have open Mechbays. The 4X just had the most terrible engine restrictions and if you end up using an XL, it's just too slow for my taste.
The 3D has JJs but I also didn't like it much either. I don't really know why I didn't like this one tho.
The Ilya is great fun though with a huge XL, 2xMPL and 2xAC10 but I don't think the other 2 quite compare. Even with the AC5 quirks on the 4X, it's just too slow. The 3D has no quirks which I assume is because it has JJs. Hopefully you find something you like!

The 4X does have a pretty cramped engine limit but I'm used to the AS7-D-DC so I've learned to anticipate movement needs. As for the 3D, I don't try to jump shoot with them. Too much leg damage and shake. I just use the JJ's for mobility. It gets me where I'm going as the crow flies. The lack of quirks on the 3D, leftover from the poptart days does kind of hurt, but the others just don't look desirable to me.

Realistically you should be using 4 AC5s on the 4X with an XL engine and the rest into ammo, AMS, and medium lasers (mix and match these).

That 4X build could be done on several other Cataphracts. To bring out this variant's true potential I would suggest something like this brawler:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8dc7b6c6f9941fe
Max std engine, uses all weapon hardpoints. You can swap the SRM out for a LRM5 by dropping to a STD250 if you want.
Either way, I would suggest making full use of this variant's energy and ballistic hardpoints. You could easily make a 4 AC/5 gargantua, or if you want to zombie with the MLs, a 3 AC/5 build with (possibly) a SRM4 to supplement the lost alpha. Having that head weapon in place allows you to zombie even more, once again.
EDIT: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6205cd352b359ba
As a Centurion player, this build gives me a semi.
Regarding your 3D build, it'll work fine. I prefer playing my Cataphract with 2 AC/10 and MPLs with a XL engine, but I'm going to experiment with a STD engine and MLs the next time I play this chassis. With the 3D, as long as you have a big AC on there somewhere and 2 JJs the build should be successful.

I'm trying to figure out how that work work without buying another XL engine for a chassis I may not keep. The only way to fit the 4th AC/5, even running XL, seems to be downgrading to something like a 210, which seems hideously slow. Do you strip a bunch of armor for that fit?

I do something very similar.. but i drop the missiles, and run AC-10's for more pin-point.. It is a very different type of brawler, and a lot of fun.. I could never get into the 4 AC-5 version.. to me AC-5's need to be on faster mechs for the most part.. and i just don't like running an XL in the cataprhact.. the way they spread fire power, you can loose a side and still be a darn powerful mech..
the 3D, i just love it with ac-20 and a pair of LL's.. It is a darn fun mech.

I hated the 3D before I put two LBX10s on it. It's a great mech now. I run it with 2 ER LL but I believe your idea of a PPC would do well.
Remember to mount any lasers on the shoulders, the way the Cat is built, it's like a clan mech with the low hanging arms.

I've said it elsewhere, but the 4X is one of the ultimate dakka mechs in the game. It can manage so many builds. Quad AC/5s (8t's of ammo with 2 SLs for backup), 2 AC/2s, 2 uAC/5s, 2xAC/10s*, 2x LB-10/X*, 2xGuass, etc. Just pick anyone and go kick ass. Yes, the low engine cap does make it a bit slow, but for the amount of firepower you can pack into them, it's worth it. The thing is a pocket assault.
(*use standard engine)
As for the 3D, I wouldn't put an ER PPC on there with only 10 DHS. I run mine like this, although I haven't seen much else like it. The 15 DHS let's you fire the ER PPC at a reasonable rate, and the speed of having the 325 in there helps quite a bit. When you've burned off some armour then you can work the LB-10/X. You shouldn't be firing the MLs & the ER PPC at the same time...unless you've got a powered down dire wolf sitting in front of you and it needs to die RFN.
Oh, you can drop the AMS for half a ton of armour on the legs and an extra DHS.
If you want to keep the 2 LB-10/Xs I'd consider something other than an ER PPC, like a bunch of MPLs or MLs with Heat Sinks? I dunno. It can do dual Gauss or dual AC/10s.

Go big or go home on the 4X
The torso energy mounts on the 3D are far superior for poptarting. And never put ammo in the CT

Old LBX build i use to run
