When the game does lock up, task manager is unable to kill the process and I have to power down my computer (hard reset) in order to get it out of memory and stop the fan from running on high (which it does whenever I play MWO because of the high graphics card usage) and start it again.
I have tried a few thirdy party process killing apps, they are all unable to stop the MWOClient.exe process as well after a crash. Is there a way to kill this process?
The hard reset I understand is pretty hard on windows..

Does the third party programs include Process Explorer? I use it religiously.
As for the other, more system information such as dxdiag. And when it locks up, how long have you left it in that setting before rebooting?

If you are getting the "administrator" error, try using the button on the bottom left that lets you see processes from all users and then try closing it again.
That allows me to close the process since I can't do it from the default screen.

1st: Sorry for reviving this old thread but since the last patch im dealing with the same problem.
Sometimes, when a match is found the game freezes before entering the lobby. Then i usually tab out to kill MWO via Task Manager to reconnect asap.
However since the last Patch im unable to close MWO using the Task Manager.
I have to wait like 5 Minutes until Windows says:"MWO is not responding", and then finally it closes on its own.
I've tried using DX9 and DX11 - problems either way.
My specs are:
Intel I7-4790k @4,00ghz
Radeon HD 6950
12gb Ram @1333
Windows 7 64bit Home Pro
Anyone has a clue?

ctr + alt + delete > bring up the task manager > right click on mwo > go to process > end process tree
if you can get the command line open and the task mgr. you can use the task kill command in windows to force it.
