Hasn't happened to me until now.

I expect that it misregistered the hits on my arm and just didn't show me that the armor was gone or that it just bypassed it completely. I just hope that it doesn't become common occurrence. Don't want my arm armor randomly disappearing every other game.

You were damaged from overriding shutdown and exceeding the heat-limit.
That damage is random and applies directly to your internals. It's what destroyed your arm and it almost took off your leg, too.

If you don't override the automatic shutdown but have a lot of excess heat only your center torso internals get damaged until the heat dropped far enough for your 'mech to power up again.

It's weird and has absolutely no logic to it but that's how it is.

If a component is destroyed internally then it is removed from the mech and wouldn't show the armour.

Bingo! I agree with the others; those are definitely signs of overheating after override!

there is a time and place to override heat, but definitely not when you are already so weak inside, pace your self with that NOVA, it is a fitting name for it's playstyle.

Well it should. Not much point display armour sections if those armour sections aren't attached to anything

It definately should but it doesn't, hence the OP's confusion and my explanation what happened.

I am all too familiar with the sight of lost components at the hands of overridden shut down damage, as some people can attest to. ;)
I just wonder if an arm destroyed in this fashion can still absorb damage with that left over armor, since they fall off of the 'Mech when they break.

yes, it will still take and protect from damage as usual.

Overriding shutdown is almost never worth it, unless you are in front of a UAC Direwolf.
