Honestly the group queue is not so bad for my friend and I. Sometimes we know it's going to be a stomp though. We start to recognize which 'clan guys' are most likely to win.

I would love for us to be able to play in the solo queue though, mostly because the group queue takes too ******* LONG to find a game.

And you work for PGI? I assume by your use of the word "They're", that you don't. Thanks for stopping by......

Russ, the president of PGI, has stated repeatedly that under no circumstance will they put groups with solos.

I see the disconnect here.

There seems to be some misconceptions about the term "team."

In the Group Queue, your "team" consists of a number of premade groups that have voice comms and have practiced together for a while (most of the time).

In the Solo Queue, you have 12 random people that have NO knowledge of the other 11 people that have all been forced together on one side...and have to put up with each other's incompetence. Odds are good that 50% of your team is inexperienced to the point that they can't unzoom so they can move without tripping on everything. And of that 50%, another 50% probably doesn't speak the same language as you do. It's a mess.

I hope you can actually see that there's a difference here. If you can't, you've got issues.

I pug no matter what unless I have at least a four man team to join up with. And I have no problem with that either.

When are people going to learn that PGI will not look at posts that end up in flame wars. They will how ever look at posts that offer up constructive criticism and ideas.

That PSA said 2 mans in group Q is fine as long as you follow the large group. Running off in 2 or 3 is almost always suicide. I get more 12 mans on the other side when im in groups of 6 or more then 2mans. And as to VOIP yes it would help but I can almost guarantee that most players will just shut the feature off when they are in larger groups.

If someone grouped up with a new guy and went into the solo Que to show them the ropes I would honestly have no problem with it. They won't be effective because of the new guy. The problem is that 2 seasoned players will have a huge advantage on comms in a solo environment. Being able to focus fire on a specific mech section instantly is huge advantage which would allow them to eliminate targets a heck of a lot faster than 2 random players in the same situation.

Being able to take a frind into training grounds would be a much better option

Ok, let's look at this from both sides of the coin.

Let's say the uber-high Elo guy is teaching a brand new player and they're on YOUR team. 1 ) don't expect a lot out of that guy...he's bodyguarding a guy that can't even move forward yet. The new player is a complete detriment to the group but...he'd be in the group anyway if he dropped solo. There's no differentiation in Elos in the solo queue. 2 ) that 'elite guy' is probably playing the same mech as his friend, to show him how it's done. That means that your assaults/heavies/mediums/lights are going to be shorthanded by 66%.

Ok, let's say your on the side against them. The new player and his elite bodyguard are most likely going to be apart from the group (moving without tripping on shadows is HARD for new players) and easy to single out by your team's wolfpack. They're either going to die first or be the last guys standing. Either way, it's not good.

My whole point is that the solo queue is already jacked up enough as it is. We don't have any "hard" separation of players by their skill (Elo). All levels end up on the same team pretty much all the time. The old saying "the better you are, the harder you have to carry" isn't just a slogan to say when you dislike something PGI did....it's the way it is. Accept it. Last thing we need is any mix-matching of group/solo players.

If someone wants to learn the ropes, he/she can use the Proving Grounds.

Which would be even more useful if players could teat drive all the mechs before buying and allowed more than one player

Two man groups DON'T have a home in this game, PGI has said so. Their only use is to allow 10 man groups in the group que. That's it. Don't expect more because PGI don't give a ****.

OP, there are tons of threads about this already. You should really search them and there's a reason it's not allowed. When the queues were first split a few months ago, those in the solo queue complained
a lot
so PGI removed them from the solo queue. Originally 2-4 mans were allowed in the solo queue and those dropping solo didn't like it, they were removed. That's essentially the "why" of the matter.

It's not because

as some of the more..... "colorful" would like to suggest, it was done at the request of the players.

Aas he said. Don't hate the Gamemaker hate the Players. WE made it so 2 man groups cannot be used in both Ques!

The easiest solution would be to enable those in 2-3 man groups to be dropped with either solo or group players? That way any group size can still be played and those in the 2-3 mans (my self included) get more variance and less wait time when playing ;)

Dead on right. The only thing the proving grounds really proves is that the game will load on your PC. For it to really live up to its name, players should be able to try any mech and perhaps even shoot at some weak AI mechs running about so... you know... new players can actually learn how to pilot in a combat-ish setting.

Hey let's get really high tech... maybe even some voiceover/objective work like they did back in... I dunno... MW2?

Sorry - that's totally off-topic. :D

On-Topic: PGI removed groups from the solo queue because it was horrendously bad for players who really did want to play solo.

Now that does beg the question... "Why not play in groups?". My view on that is that there are literally no incentives to grouping up. None. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Especially during these "team up with your friends" events - the "ggclose" crowd waits with anticipation for such events so that they can increase their stats and cbills exponentially by cleaning the floor with the tears of those who happenstance into a match with them.

Sadly... if you're not an ultra-competitive-meta-only player... your only choice (that is if you want to have some fun) is to play solo and live with what you 'get'. Sorry that it kind of rains on your 2-man parade but that seems to be (my view) the reality of things.

Your two man group isn't getting put against twelve man teams with any sort of frequency.

So glad that somebody brought this up!
From what I've seen and heard, it's quite rare for a 2-man to be thrown into battle against a full 12-man. More often than not, your 2-man group is in a team with other smaller groups, and your opponent is also made up of smaller groups.

Would love to see some "evidence" showing how often 2-mans do face a full 12-man though.

Anyhow, my input on this is that the Solo-Queue was much more fun when small groups were able to join. Having one "pre-made" on a team really helped to glue the PUGs together into a slightly more cohesive unit - of course, this all depended on how friendly the pre-made was being...etc.

I have not ever had a big problem with being in just a 2 man in the group que. I do this with my unit mates all the time. It is rare you end up against a giant 12 man over and over again. I do just fine and I am not a great player. I group que if anyone even one person is on in my unit and doesn't want solo PUG, and I solo PUG the rest of the time.

I do wish there was a solution to this problem as I have hit it myself once or twice. Had a friend wanted to get them in the game, he just couldn't hack it in the group que. Would have been nice if there was way to drop with him in a less competitive environment.

However putting ANY sized group in the solo que is not the answer. It has been done before and was separated for a reason. And while the forum QQ whine had something to do with that, PGI said their data indicated even a two man had a large advantage.

I have no solutions, but I did hear Russ talking about a possible 4v4 mode, perhaps that is the answer.
