Left MWO about 2-3 months back, and just came back recently to check the current state of the game. For those out there, how does the game feel like now? More importantly - how's the current state of the Awesome right now, for any pilots out there?

They are better but still low tier. The 8Q got the best quirks imho.

So the opinion of the Awesome is still at low tier? That's unfortunate.

I kinda like the quirks for the Pretty Baby, but I need more drops in my Awesomes. 2nd one is the 9M.

I've seen them do some nasty stuff, but still, not a very competitive mech, due to it's hitboxes and shape.

Let me put it this way, i love IS assaults, and have now owned and piloted every one except the Awesomes, because I really don't have interest or reason to try them, compared to any other assault I can already field. They're more like a way-too-big heavy than an assault.

I know some people that love them, don't get me wrong, but they're certainly still a bit lackluster.

If you want PPCs in an Awesome, use the 8Q. ERPPCs, 9M I think.

They're beastly with them.

However, the Awesome is still a barn door. Extra structure hitpoints were added to help, but that doesn't make you a smaller target.

They are still support assault mechs, keep a low profile and keep shooting.
The 8Q still remain my favourite assault mech, with the 9M and Atlas RS in close second.

This. Post-quirk 8Q with range and cooldown modules just spits so much lightning, If I can dictate range, keeping targets outside PPC minimums, its an absolute slaughter machine. So its pretty much the same Awesome, just quirks let it fire faster, still all the same flaws.

Not sure how much my input will help as I just started playing them a few weeks ago, I do not play assaults very often and when I do I play them badly for the most part.

That said to me they seem like they fill their niche roles insanely well. The 8R makes a great missile boat, the 8Q can spit lightning all day long, the 8T is a nice combo of lrms and long range lasers. I do not have the rest yet so cannot comment on them. Though I expect they are similar in most respects. They are however, slow and fat. The 9M might not be but the rest are (slow that is, ALL of them are fat). They are totally support role long range fighters it seems to me.

PPC Awesomes are great at beating up bad players in the solo queue. They can bully bads well and punch holes through the soft spots that your teammates open up. Against good players in flavor-of-the-month mechs, you will need a lot more support from your teammates. If your meatshields/distractions are good, you can really cause havoc, tearing off components and dropping pinpoint damage right into the enemy team's CTs. If they aren't, or if your team expects you to lead the charge, you will die horribly.

Some games you will pull 800 damage and 5 kills, while others you won't break 300 damage. They're very situational so sometimes they feel like the lottery.

Regardless, I love em. There's just something ever-so-satisfying about hammering Dire Whales and Atlases over and over and over with 20 or even 30 point alphas. It's such a wonderfully visceral feeling.

I love the Awesomes, they are better than before the IS quirk pass I feel. I don't run my 8Q with PPC's, still has my 4 LPL's on it. But you can't expect to take on everybody by yourself, definitely not top tier but I do love running them. I have hours of footage both pre and post IS quirk pass on my youtube channel if you want to get an idea of how they are doing.

Edit: I do have my 9M set up with 3 ERPPC's and 3xSL. It's a fun setup, and I've had many good matches in it, but I still prefer my 8Q over the 9M.

The Awesomes are now what I'd call Viable!

I have been using the 8Q since it was quirked, and bought a R and V versions for the leveling (didn't want to spend the dough on a 9M or PB). I run quad PPCs on my 8Q, the -V is good for 2 PPCs + 3 SRM6, and I use quad LRM15 on the R.

I have to say, as long as you're not expecting a Hull-Down hunkering Stalker, the Awesomes can be great. Use the arms to mitigate damage as much as possible, and never run an XL. Their Heat Generation Quirks are really what give them more firepower post-quirk since the Awesomes are all hot and devoid of ballistics. Use those compounded Heat Generation buffs to maximize the Awesomes' awesomeness.

That's why it is a support mech! If you are the one out front, being focused on, then you are going to have a bad day.

Quad LRM10 8R or Quad PPC 8Q are among my favorite rides.
