I recently managed to get Mechwarrior 2 and 4 via download (since they are free.)
They are both on my computer... And I can't play to theses games.
I think my computer is too powerful and recent. And I need help... Since I heard about the Mechwarrior Franchise I wanted to try out these games...
How can I play to them?

Hmm, I just asked because I could not get them to run on my old vista machine. I run WIN 7 Pro and can play MW4 with it.

Luckily, i still have in my old house my old Win98 PC that runs my original MW2 , enhanced edition
However, using Win7 i have been able to play MW2 with DosBox and D-Fend Reloaded. I even managed to get NetMech working, some months ago i did some duels with a Clan mate

Greetings all,
For these older games to even have a chance at running you'll need Dx9 and Dx9c installed.
- They use applications to render the images that are no longer used with current systems.
(some are running images in 8 or 16bit for the Ui MechLab.)
- Most run on a much smaller screen size than standard monitors are displaying, but that can be altered to look better.
- Some of these older games have an 'issue' when they change the window size for the different parts of the game, the Ui, the videos, the game.
- Also check that you have the correct format and codex to run the older start videos, many are no longer used.
(the start videos can be 'by-passed' with a modification to the shortcut link.)
If you can setup your video card to apply the lowest 'enhancements', (Nvidia control panel) just for that game, it's has a better chance of running. (but there was some work on higher definition models ad terrain for some of the old MW games, don't have a link for the site I saw it on.)
Also for ATI users, On Windows 8.1 64-bit check the “Disable display scaling on high DPI settings” under the Compatibility tab.
(may help some as the window will attempt to scale to a much smaller size. This is a pretty common fix for a lot of games (and games using libraries like SDL) that depend on older versions of DirectX. (something like Windowed 640x480x16)
- The game requires administrator rights to run. The first time you run the game you will need to accept the end user license agreement too.
There might be some help at this site for installing and fixing errors for MW4, especially for ATI users:

- As a note here: Windows lists MW4 Merc as not compatible with win8, but will run in compatibility mode for Win7 32bit.
Hope some helps here.

You have to have the Dos version of Mechwarrior 2 to be able to run in dosbox. You may have the version that is windows only.

You need to play MW4 in windowed mode to achieve actual framerate. It's a directplay bug. You can get around it by finding a program that forces the game in fullscreen windowed.
