Hi all,

I have seen quite a few GTX970 and I'd like some help undestanding what's the difference between the G1 and the Windforce models.

Are they the same?
Whats different besides price?

G1 is higher-clocked by default. The GPUs are hand-binned (hand-picked for better overclocking). May also be differences in the power system, judging by the Overview at Newegg.

There's also a difference in the monitor types you can connect. G1 has 3 displayports, 2 dvi and hdmi, still only 4 screens at the same time, but it's nice and flexible.

I've heard something about the products used to make the fans and all that stuff being different. One has more plastic than the other.
Is that true?

G1 has a backplate, which might be a consideration for you. Supposedly the cooler is slightly better but with 970s cooling doesnt tend to be an issue.

If you're already considering a gtx 970 then you won't be disappointed either way. I have a gtx 670 windforce and that thing never breaks 55c under full load and is pretty much silent the entire time. Go for the G1 if you want slightly more speed but if im alreafy getting 80 to 130fps on the 670. The 970 is overkill.

Not if you want to have all details on max on all of your games, it's not.

Lots of people are willing to sacrifice visual quality for playable frame rates. But there are plenty who don't accept that.

Well, the truth is I'm tired of playing in low res and low detail.
I started playing MWO in a very dated computer with user.cfg changed to below minimum settings. Managed to get 6-12 fps.
Then I changed to a better computer and without a graphics card in medium-low settings I'm getting 30FPS average.
It's time for me to increase the graphics details and enjoy the game at its fullest, so I'm thinknig about buying a good and afordable GPU.

As long as you have the processor capable of feeding it......heres hoping you have intel I5+ or an aftermarket CPU cooler for AMD.
