Patcher caused a hard system lock, had to reset the pc broke the game and means a new reinstall. This is the 2nd time in a month this has happened.
First time was in the end of October I was updating (the new map release one) but while it was downloading I opened payday2 I was in the menus then suddenly system froze only a reset brought it back. Fool is me I thought for getting bored and doing something else while the patcher ran.
Left MWO installing over night
2nd time was the last tues patch and I only using patcher/ts/firefox never had any problems with that before. Screen froze full system hard lock only a reset would fix. Now really you can't expect people to not use there pc will the game updates esp since as I reinstall now its taken 5hrs+ to download install database (5gb it seems) on a 28meg line which for anything else would of been done along time ago.
So my questions are
Why it the patcher so fickle clearly it falls below par compared to other offerings from your contemporaries.
Why does it take so long to install MWO (if I was a new player I would of probably ditched it and as a current player who's semi burnt out ditching the game altogether did pop into my head the 2nd time)

How's the integrity of your harddrive you're installing it on? I was patching once during a system backup... fragged my drive, luckily I had an entire backup of my 120g SSD.

Any hard lock is a hardware problem, not a software one. The software might help to trigger it, but the hardware is still to blame.
...at least, in my 20+ years of PC troubleshooting experience.
I can download the full install in less than an hour, using my 30Mb/5Mb Comcast cable internet. In fact I just did two months ago when I built this computer. I've never had a problem with any of the patches taking longer than they should either. So no, I have no idea why it would go overnight on a 28Mb connection.

The patcher is extremely inefficient since it first unpacks the pak (zip) files, then applies the update and packs it back. And those files have a couple of GBs in size.
I have 8 GB of RAM and an i5 desktop processor and it slows down my system to a crawl.
