It wouldn't be a guaranteed monthly income for PGI.

well, except for those who are...

Okay, one person in the thread suggested so, and you didn't quote him in context of any of your replies except this one. I can safely say that suggestion is dead on the water, though. If it were compulsory, what would happen to everyone that had bought a mech pack? Would we have to start paying to use what we already bought? That's not a can of worms PGI would open, they'd be slitting their own throats open.

The right model for a subscription in a F2P title is basically premium time and perks (that aren't P2W), and PGI knows it.

Subscriptions simply make me go, "Oh I think I want to hop on this game this weekend.... oh but then I should probably re-activate my subscription... Will I play it a whole lot the rest of the month? Well maybe so would it be worth it? Not if I end up busy.... and then I'll feel like I ~HAVE~ to play or I'm wasting my money and what if I don't feel like it tomorrow. Screw it I'll go play something like Payday 2 and drop $5 on some DLC. "

link cammos to maps - so your mechs will always be your chosen cammo fpr a particular map ie green for swamp white for artic etc ...

and custom huds differnt target reticule more numbers alternate paper doll etc...

then the next thing you know is PGI is only giving out new content(camo swapping, custom huds different target reticule more numbers alternate paper doll etc...) to subscription payers and and the F2P crowd gets nothing.

no thanks.

so no one is suggesting it, except the one who did, and I never quoted him, except for when I did.

ok then..

That's the exact same reasoning why I don't buy premium time.

I can buy a mech, or a camo pattern, etc.. and I know it's always there to play when I have the time. premium time/subscription time just vanashies.

Yeah, it's probably really unlikely to happen and I don't think it's even a good thing at this point in the game. People have already sunk hundreds/thousands of dollars into a game over a couple years and now all of a sudden, I have to pay $10 just to get something I've paid my dues into, 10x over?

And like you said... if want to play for a weekend, I can just get a day or 2 of premium if I want and grind it out. If I don't play for a month, I'm not losing anything. Too far into this to actually be able to do it without so many angry people.

Was there anymore talk about the Steam stuff? Was that going to happen? I'll have to go check out Town Hall and listen to it again. What would they do to entice people to play via Steam? There would have to be like a Steam Package.

No reason why they cant have a mc option to add a cammo slot to the maps

they can even create special mc ony huds that are cooler than the subs .

all a sub model does in addition to f2p model is give consumers choice

consumers who have more choice spend more money .

subs are not evil.

I would gladly, and most readily, pay a subscription if this game had more stuff to do besides the three TDM Game Modes and the Vaperware CW=TDM Game Mode on the dozen or so maps it has.

Pay to play, sub games go F2P to die...

There is no way a game comes back from F2P.

Same. I don't understand where the money to develop an f2p game comes from. It just feels like I'm getting something for nothing & the game might just go away any minute.

simple..

the price tag of $10 is too low.....

There's basically one question you have to ask yourself before suggesting a monetization method for MWO: Does this help in getting the Whale money? If no, then it's not going to happen. It's really that simple. That's why we're seeing mech-pack and then a mech-pack and after that, yes another mech-pack will happen.

Another option on top of the ideas presented in the thread is give veteran rewards for continued subs, something like a AS7-D(V) varient if you sub consistently for a year

I'd prefer to see it set up as a pay to play as opposed to free to play........would eliminate a LOT of the issues seen in the game as well as in the forums. I'd happily pay $19.95 a month to get rid of some of the dead weight.

yeha would solve the issues of palyers, which would be gone to a bigger degree.
Not really a solution, hardly any games work on p2p base anymore. There is too much competition nowdays, and games need the gamers to have population so that paying customers have others to play with and the guys rarely playing also have nterest in the game.

But a subscription, or basically motivating premium would be nice.

we could make:

free modules for premium users
free colors and camos to select for premiumusers.

once premium runs out, camos and moduls reset and only the ones they bought for MC are available.
Further maybe, increase the available trialmechs for premium users, being able to choose between all existing mechs as trials in stock mode.

We could indeed make a lot more appealing stuff into premium, without making it pw2 or needed, but with more incentives.

This subject pops up periodically

I'd love it. Pgi has said they want to explore the option in the future.

However

With this game as is right now. Does anyone honestly feel there is $10-15 monthly worth of content? Compare the game overall to other games and what they offer in terms of content (not monthly rewards for subbing) and you really feel most would find value in that?

MWO is not subscription-ready for the same reason it isn't ready for Steam...it's still in beta. (Don't even try to argue when PGI is releasing hot-fixes for horribly broken hitboxes on brand new content after forum rage.)

Basically we have to hope the game continues to grow slowly to the point where it's refined and ready for a big public launch on Steam, with TV advertising, etc. Then once we have a functional CW along with well-populated PUGs in a stable game, a subscription model for premium time and special-access content makes sense.

well buying it at the current deal qith mc rebate and 50% rebate on premium it then is a quite nice "feel good" addition for a bit easier C-bill and faster mech leveling. But for fullprize I think its hardly worth it, since it is not containing much unless you need to start private matches for clanbattles and such.

For someone not playing the game often, It is probably even better to buy C-bills direcly instead of premium, regular premium prize is for a year is 39 million c-bills. which means to obtain that money he needs to earn 78mio C-bills ingame. lets be generous and say he gets 200k averagely per match 8which probably is too much for a rarely playing gamer). Then he needs 390 matches to get this. All in all hardly someone that is a weekendwarrior will squeeze this out of his matches at all within a year. So when C-bills would be the incentives, he may be better wiht directly buying c-bills.

premium is dfinately bunch too expensive at all.

It does, it's called premium time.

The real question is why people don't think of premium time as a subscription.

How about 15 dollars a month for everything as it comes out, and you keep it as long as you keep the sub
