Seriously, a Subscription would cost $15 a month. Include premium time, some allowance of MC (probably 500 a month) and then some other options like priority access to que in to matches, maybe a 10% discount off the MC cosmetic items like cockpit items, colors, camos but not mechs, and maybe 1-2 other minor bonuses. This is pretty typical what a subscription cost and what it gets you in most other game.
It would have to sweetened a bit more than that for me but if they made the premium bonus 100% for a subscriber, I would be in.
The way I see it, PGI would make the subscription cost roughly the same amount as it would cost otherwise. Perhaps % off mechpacks is too much though, I was just spitballing.
My point is that a subscription model IN ADDITION to the current pay models might have value.

What friends am I reinforcing? And wtf did I say to get you to attack me? Take your misplaced anger elsewhere.

In this man's humble opinion, Warcraft ruined the entire MMO genre for several years. It's a horrible skinner box and a complete bait-n-switch carefully, deliberately crafted to extract maximum addiction rates from its players whilst disregarding any such thing as "fun", "enjoyment", or "accomplishment". Its runaway success and the eight hundred million palette-swapped clones that success spawned stymied the development of the genre almost completely up until only a couple-odd years ago when it finally started losing steam. A big part of that problem is the subscription model, which makes many players feel as if they're being forced to play the game in question in order to avoid losing money - even if they don't particularly like the game or feel like playing it at the time.
Like I said. Losing my premium time is bad enough in MWO, and MWO's monetization model has its own legion of issues, but at least they don't lock my account and/or threaten to break my kneecaps if I don't keep paying my
It comes from the three percent of any given F2P's player base who, like me, spend far more money than they know they should on this game. As a purchaser of a good couple-odd hundred thousand MC over the years and owner of practically every top-end 'Mech package Piranha's kicked out, I've paid my 'subscription fee' for quite a few years running, as well as the subscription fees of a number of my free-player compatriots. A F2P is by necessity smaller than a sub game as well and is able to get away with a smaller team and less frequent major feature updates. That and you're underestimating the number of microtransactions even a moderately-sized playerbase can generate. The fifteen-dollar MC pack gets you plenty of stuff, and any player who buys a fifteen-dollar MC pack has paid their monthly shot, hm? Enough of those per month - even if they're not the same guys - and the game keeps on chugging.
And it also means that whatever you get is bought and paid for, instead of renting your own bloody crap from the game developer, with the ever-present looming threat of losing all the progress you've worked on for years just because you can't make your sub payment for a month or two.
Re: WoW,
Well, I don't know enough about MMOs & the state of gaming in general to take issue with the assertion that it's stymied the development of the genre, you may well be right about that, but speaking purely from personal experience, I only picked up WoW last year & I found I got a great deal of fun out of the levelling process, just from a lore & story point of view (I'm a lore fiend with every game Ive gotten into, be it video or tabletop). Once I'd levelled my characters, done some dungeons & ground out a couple of epic items I found my playing slackened off naturally. I didn't really have any trouble with being hooked on it. & When I was at my peak of playing I was doing 8+ hours a day some days.
As for people feeling forced to pay up their "protection money" against their will... I'm not sure I buy that at all (if you excuse the pun)... Its very easy to unsub from WoW... It's not like they delete your account and you lose all your hard work if you just unsubscribe. I eventually unsubbed last september and my account is sitting there waiting for a day when I have more time/money for games & I can dive back in. If anyone feels "forced" to play the game when they don't like it, well... thats a problem that's all in their head... no ones forcing them to do anything...
Re: f2p income
I get all that, it just seems like $15 a month from 3% of the player base (a player base who we've already established is a lot smaller than non f2p games) wouldn't be enough to pay for server costs, offices, the salaries of all the people who work on the game, including people who arent actually members of PGI like artists & sound designers & stuff... I dunno. Maybe my estimation of the numbers is way off, like I say I dont know much about gaming or how these things work.

5 dollars a month I think is fair
1000 MC injection every month
Can use any of the hero mechs like a trial (cannot customize or skill up without buying it)
Constant premium time.

Enough that people are already paying for in the form of MC's for premium time, 'mech packs and/or heros, colors, camos & all sorts of other vanity goodies that can only be purchased with $/€/£/¥, or whatever currency is applicable.
Content doesn't mean the same things for all people. So far, obviously enough people already have shown that they are willing to pay a monthly premium for the content we currently have, along with additional perks - that they are currently paying for anyway.
Win win scenario for everyone.

Hit a nerve did I?
FWIW I wasn't talking about the F2P players though, I was talking about the mouthbreathers like yourself that run around spewing manure safely behind their firewall. If there were a fee associated with the game it would eliminate at least some people like you.

So let's do some math here with some general estimations to make it quick and clean to show how the current system is getting you what you keep asking for, just in a different format.
Subscription model (as is right now)
Lets take the $15 a month MC approach....
-Buy 3000MC for $15
-Use 2500MC for 30 days of premium time
-Bank 500MC a month (12 months, bank 6000MC)
Lets take the Bulk Sum MC discount (yearly) approach....
-Buy 24000MC for $100
-Use 24000MC for 360 days of premium time
-Cost of ~$8.34 a month for the perk ($80 less annually then a monthly payment)
-Use that banked ~$80 and buy a 12,000MC for $50, use the other $30 you saved to buy your wife chocolates on Valentines Day (And get laid and keep your personal life alive)
People want....
-I should get 1000MC a month -> Solution: Buy the Bulk Sum MC approach
-A month $15 sub approach -> Solution: Buy the $15 a month MC approach (and yes, you can now activate later you banked time with the mwomercs/profile link they added)
-People want perks for xp and cbills -> Solution: Buy any premium time option
-Early access to other things.... -> We already have that all over the place, its not like all DLC doesn't eventually become free, and in a rather fast timeframe if I do say so myself. Hell I just saw that the Masakari is up for Cbills.... not more then a few months after I bought my pack.
Why do we need a sub model again?
