PIMPING YOUR RIDE AT THE NAIS

BEEP BEEP BEEP " FIRST YEAR CADETS, REPORT TO THE MECH LAB" , " FIRST YEAR CADETS, REPORT TO THE MECH LAB"

Good you all made it to the mech lab. I am glad too see some of you had the foresight to change clothes. For today you are going to get down and dirty working with our techs. Learning how to trick out that metal pony.
To start, there are several schools of thought about how you should build your mech. Some pick weapons first. Others go with maxing out your available space, while others start with the engine. Then there is the arguement of Standard engine Vs XL engines. I will state now that all these arguements have pros and cons. What matters most is that you feel comfortable in your mech, and are effective in it.

NOTE any method of upgrading your mech is pendant on you having enough cash to do so. If not, you will have to up grade it in parts when cash is available. Before we start selecting options. Anything listed in red is not usable and will say why. Also, under weapons, only those with a hard point on mech locations will be shown.

Now lets head into the mech bays, if you do not have a mech chosen already, pick a chasis and variant and buy it. Lets start by striping down your metal monster. Remove all weapons, engine and other gear. Next, max out all your armor. You can always trim it down later. If you want to max out your weight, head to upgrades. If you only got space for 1 weight upgrade, take ENDO STEEL. Now choose your engine and weapons. Remember to add ammo for weapons that use them. Should you upgrade your missles to ARTEMIS, you will have to buy new ammo with ARTEMIS. Also, XL engines use up side torso space. You may not have enough space for using some weapons. Watch your HEAT EFFICIENCY. Upgrading to double HEAT SINKs is good.

Lastly, a chat about engines and internal heat sinks. Wether using standard or XL its all the same. at a 250 engine, you get the minium 10 heat sinks required by all mechs. for every 25 points above that, you get 1 free heat sink slot in the engine. This will save CRIT space. Standard or double heat sinks will fit in this space.

While there are websites that can help with building your mech. I always recommend that you play around in the lab. Get a feel for building mechs yourself. You learn more that way than you do by copying what others do. Dont be afraid to play around with new builds.

@Heinous Post these in New player section OR guide section so the people that really need a guide like this can learn. Posting in General Discussion will just bury the topic to favor balance topics and whatnot.

And NEVER FORGET SMURFY: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab Better than the mechlab as in building mechs.
