Hi,

Downloaded MWO yesterday. Played 30 matches, wet to bed. Woke up and no mwo icon? Searched computer and MWO files found, only the installer!

On the surface it looks like I will have to install the game again.

Also, why the lag on typing this?

Started to reinstall the game, which would take nearly 4 hours. Then thought sod-it and deleted it.

And now? :)
Have you tried searching for Mechwarrior and not MWO?
If an installed game suddenly disappears, then the problem is on your end. I would check my pc in that case for anything suspicious.

Greetings all,

The default directory it should have installed to is here:
C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32
(this is the original old install location, from early beta, and may now be changed.)

That location is on a Win7 64bit system, Win 8 does some rather different install locations.
- Check that the original install exe has been given admin authority to complete the install.
- You may have been playing the game from a completely temporary location that was removed after you closed the game.
(lack of authority to install, but could be played from the temp location, and automatically removed/deleted after the program was completed.)

Both the install program and the game exe should have admin level authority as they need to check/read and often write into the windows directory locations for some of the games settings.
- As a note here: the game download locations are not the same as the live server location, two completely separate locations and speeds for each. The downloads should be somewhat local for the client and dependent on that ISP's avail up/down speed caps.

Hope some of this helps,
9erRed

Well it gets worse, and why is typing on the forum so laggy that I (a touch typer) have to type this in word and cut and paste?

Anyway, I did reinstall and played. However today there was no launcher, though I did have the main game, expect the main game can't run without the launcher.

To cut a long story short...I have CCleaned, deleted the registery, uninstalled the game, yes I have c++ and .net, turned off firewalls and restarted.

Yet the launcher gets stuck right near the end, where the dxsetup (which I already have) does nothing, and I can only close the dxsetup task by doing a forced shut-down/restart.

I can't even install the game.

In all honesty, the installation procedure of this game is shambolic.

This is my level of computer knowledge, it's to do with skyrim...

I would give up on this if I wasn't in a clan.

First, the launcher.

When installing gae, I hae 2 pipes ope in (supid lag), but I close one. The othr, alon wit directxsetup cannot be cloed in task manager. I click on cancel, then click on install launcher icon again (lag cleared up). That installs the launcher to the point where I can download main file. However I suspect the launcher icon will disappear.

I shall finish installing game and thn (lag back) look at the registry as I thnk it is gin to a temp loation.

(Get nw programrs!)

Not sure what is causing you to have trouble with the game itself, but the lag you mention in typing here on the forums sounds like what I experienced while I was using Internet Explorer.
When I switched to Google Chrome that problem went away. So I would recommend switching browsers if you happen to be using IE.

Hopefully your troubles with the game itself can be erased as well!

I have installed the game and then restarted the computer. Observe the following:

1) DXsetup was constantly in task manaer, but not doing anytng
2) The registry of the game in regedit is missing on rsarting
3) The main game fle iintact, but MWOUpdate is empty - totally
4) Launcer icon I missing.

Ieven followed this to no aval:

http://mwomercs.com/...8-cant-install/

Now if I want to install lancher I have to uninsal main game, will mo file and see wat happens.

Greetings,

1. You stated you already have the Dx files, is this the Dx9c items? Or just the latest Dx11 set?

- To start this game requires some items from the older Dx9c library, without those missing items it will not run.
- Win 7 and 8 do not go back that far in the library of Dx and don't have those missing files. In fact many programs still require some of those older files to run on the new windows formats.

Win 7 and 8 will issue you a statement that they have newer versions of the Dx files and not want to install the 9c versions files.
- If you see the Dx install being opened while the game is installing it may be needed or is trying to 'get the missing files'.
(so don't close it during the install of MWO)

2. Are you saying that after the game installs there is no exe file listed in the 'bin32' directory?
- It should be named MechWarriorOnline.exe
(see image)
Posted Image

3. The install folder of MechWarrior Online should contain 5 folders and 6 files, just for reference.
- and be about 6.74 GB in size.
(if you checking that specific folder for properties, look under the tab 'security' and find the Authenticated Users, SYSTEM, Administrators, Users. The last 3 should have 'full control' authority all checked.)

Even if there is no shortcut created, you can just create one using that initial exe I referenced.
(see item # 2)
- Not really understanding why it wasn't produced in the first place, but some antivirus programs do not like anything with an exe in it's install and may see this as a threat.
(this goes back to giving the install program Admin level authority during it's install)

Advise what you have.

so there is a program that does this, its called deep freeze. make sure your not locking your system down with that program.

also you can try disabling Microsoft restore points, its possible the system is failing and loading a previous restore point.

Lastly there are viruses that hide files from you using permissions.

use the file explorer folder options to "show hidden files" or take ownership of your C: drive.
