I don't actively try for them very often. Only if the head is already significantly damaged, or if I'm in a dual-gauss 'Mech. I'd bet most of the 32 are from Arty-strike kills and Disconnected 'Mechs.

About 1 headshot every 76 kills.

If headshots were any easier to get, everyone would aim for them and you would need to buff the hitpoints.

2342 kills
29 headshots including arty headshots without arty is probably about half that many.

Just to clarify, are you saying that if headshots were any easier, then everyone would aim for them? That we're currently at some sort of treshold, and if cockpits are marginally increased, it would result in a headhunting bonanza?
Or are you saying that if headshots were significantly easier to get, everyone would aim for them?

Well, it's actually 1.24%. You have to multiply by 100 to get the percentage :)

So you seem to be above average, compared to other people in this thread. :)

This. If headshots were more attainable, cockpits would become the go-to place to aim for. People would then naturally become much much better at hitting cockpits and that would compound it further.

Only problem is that it would take in the very least doubling the size (and effectively quadrupling the surface area) of the cockpits to even begin to have a cockpit that's reliably hittable.

No, shutdown and afk mechs don't count.

Most of the time I just shoot for CT, other times I'll pile rounds into the cockpit for the scare/dust in the eyes. Other times a crit cockpit will present itself or like my last two I didn't even notice them.

My favorite was 2 volleys of PPCs from my TDR-9S across the river on river city, I managed to get targetting data just in time to see an unscathed battlemaster (IIRC) with no head. In chat I said "lol, wow" the prompt reply was simply "NS", nice and friendly.

Another was a fresh dual gauss/ppc direwhale while I was in the same, but more beat up already. He was not so happy to be head shot.

I find that head shots are difficult mostly due to the misleading cockpit skins rather than the small size of the cockpits, I haven't really bothered memorizing what portion of the cockpit is cockpit. The ~250ms ping doesn't help either. I think head shots are about where they need to be.

My favorite is when you aim an AC/20 at a stripped jenner CT only for their cockpit to tank the shot :D

Makes sense as over a 900 these kills have been from my SRM Oxide with quite a few of these being Heavies/Assaults getting their rear armour ripped out.

1 headshot kill ever. It was a beautiful shot to kill a Spider. SPLAT. Felt so good.

Ok now i see so you divide headshots by kills and multiply by 100 to get your percentage? If so im at 1.41%

EDIT: I don't use arty. I would be interested to see who does, as I would guess a pretty significant chunk of all headshots come from artillery/airstrikes. Since the stat reset when it started tracking kills again, of my 1980 kills I have been headshotted ~10-20 times, and can only recall ever having it happen twice to anything but consumables (those were both double gauss).

Of these about 20 are from disconnected mechs. Another 20 are from playing a dual gauss k2 and deliberatly aiming for headshots. The rest were randomly done in other mechs.

for the 20 aimed headshots, there's easily 100+ times that I hit the head once and "it got away" - either lrms/arty/somone else took out it's cherry red head or it died otherwise with the badly damaged cockpit going begging. Of the 20, most were 1 shot with lucks crits or hits on an already damaged head. a few were point blank and I could follow up with 4x M lasers.

As stated above several times It's almost always more efficient to aim for the CT or whichever other section will destroy the mech quickest.

Anyone else remember the days of closed beta where the head hit box of the Atlas was THE WHOLE HEAD? Talk about a fast TTK on that mech. You needed a stopwatch that could measure 1/100th of a second. heh ;)

No luck yet on the HS kills though I swear I got one last week but no credit for it.
