Just wondering if there has been any commentary on what happens when you die, but the match is not over.

Some people are fine with waiting for the next round, but I know a lot of people, especially new players, will be frustrated with having to sit there for 8 minutes after they were blown up in 2 minutes. I remember when all team death match games were basically 1 life and then you sit the match, but as you can see from modern FPS's the more popular style is the respawn, because people don't want to sit around. I'm not saying there should ever been respawns in MW, but I think a mechanic to reduce downtime is needed for the long term success of the game.

Is there an option to cut your losses at that point, maybe forfeit any win bonus or something, and join another game?

I hope that it's like WoT, that when you die you can either Spectate or go back to your Garage (Mech Lab) and choose another one of your Mechs to fight in another match. :D

Spectate sounds like a dirty word, and the beer doesn't help.

According to what I've read, at this point you're limited to viewing from your teammates' cockpits. Might change.

Maybe if you die 2 minutes into a 10 minute round you should actually be watching how the other players are managing to survive longer than you, yes?

Your body slowly decomposes...

No really that is what happens after you die.

Here you guys go.

Q: Will there be a ghost view or ability to watch the game through other players cockpits if you die in a match, or will you be stuck watching a blank screen until the game is over? [Rashhaverak]
A: Currently when dead you can watch through your teammates eyes, but you are limited to that. You can't, say, use a freecam. We find this is the best balance of still being involved in the match, but not allowing cheating to occur. [GARTH]

I know, but OP was suggesting that new players would become "frustrated" by watching the round so long after death. Well, they can either watch and learn or repeat their mistakes ad nauseum.

Spectate, rage, get a coffee, play with your joystick. There's lots of options when you're dead. Pick one.

This attitude seems to be quite common on these forums and whilst I totally understand where you are coming from I am troubled by it. To me, this whole concept of punishing people for losing a match or dying early on, runs the risk of encouraging cowardice during play.

When No one wants to advance on the enemy for fear of getting smoked early on. Or how about just one or two of your teammates hanging at the back waiting for you to charge in and soften the enemy up for them to finish off in the final minutes - effectively leaving you twisting in the breeze?

I would much rather game mechanics that in no way penalize a player for aggressive play. Sometimes a bold strategy pays off, sometimes it backfires in your face. Anything that encourages 'safe' play may lead to troubles.

Actually, I would say that encouraging "safe" will only serve to emphasize combined-arms, role warfare tactics. Nobody's going to try to be a hero, but a scout will do scouting because he know the Cats in the rear will be throwing their flaming balls of death overhead, and the Hunchies will be moving in because they already know where to go thanks to the scout. All without any Leroy Jenkinsing.

Given the strictures of previous league match games, probably dead mechs can't see or talk. Why should a dead fool be able to pass along tactical info to his team? You are dead....GAME OVER!

I'm not sure why this would be considered a penalty. It's a gameplay mechanic. There is no respawn except in the previously mentioned (but not yet implemented) extended matches where you may have a dropship full of 'Mechs overhead. If you just want to respawn and play then there are a number of other F2P games available.

Regarding cutting your losses.... I'm under the impression that you will be able to log out of the match and get in another 'Mech (if you have one) and join another match. I could be wrong. There's really no alternative for this type of game.

I have been wondering that ever since I learned of MWO's existance. It baffles me that everybody everytime when this question comes up only either gives no answer, a half-answer or some misplaced rubbish.

In an online fight to get anywhere you sometimes need to take risks. They may pay out in victory or backfire in a quick death - either way it was not n00bish play. If we get stuck watching the match or alt-tabbing out of the game and doing something else until the match is over I sure would not be very amused. It has to be possible to leave the match, hop into the next Mech and have more fun.

Phew... rage is out :D
Honestly, I expect these 2 options:
- Spectating from cockpit's view of others as has been confirmed many times.
- Leaving the match back to Mechlab (where the Mech you just used is locked until the match is over) and hopping into another Mech.

Shoot you,

Gridian
