today was Sainte Barbe in France
She is the patron of all who work with fire and by extension Firefighters
so on this important day in the year for us french firefighters i wish a safe and happy year to come for all my fellow colleagues in the World wether they are volunteers ,military or professionals

As a former active duty United States Marine, we worked beside Le Legion Etrangere in Somalia back in 1992 & 1993. I have great respect for the troops of The Legion from that time. I realize they, themselves were mostly not French, but they did France proud there and earned our respect.

Almost all CO are french in the foreign legion for practical reasons
Most NCO are from other countries and went thru all the necessary training to become the pride of our Nation,they are the backbone of any unit in the French forces
First spilled blood grants them the french nationality and we are proud to name them our fellow citizens
Among the Legion quite a few americans...they always deliver....Bless them...
If you ever come to Europe make sure to visit the cemeteries from WW1 and WW2...you will witness they are well cared for...we have a good memory,even if our Politicians may not...
