Clan Mechs

The Timber Wolf is a 75-tonner which again is the heaviest a heavy mech can be, and it has very strong hardpoints and very good hitboxes.
Both these mechs are also fast and agile for their weight class.
For a first mech I would suggest either the Stormcrow or the Shadowhawk, they are both good starter mechs. Alternatively the Firestarter is very strong right now. The Timber Wolf is excellent but is a little expensive for a first mech.

It is like this has become the official party line of those that still wnat more clan nerfs.
Have you even SEEN what the Dragon 1N and Thunderbolt with all the lasers do now post quirks?
Every time I see one in a match it is like 700 damage minimum.
I said it before in another thread. As a Timberwolf pilot, I fear Thunderbolt MPL boats more than any Timberwolf build.
Heck, I primarily use the 6-7 MPL Timberwolf now. With MPL Thunderbolts, SPL Firestarters, rapid-fire PPC Awesomes, rapid-fire AC-20 Hunchbacks, etc, it's just too much face time for CERL, CUACs, and other longer duration weapons.

That AC-80 4G is pretty fearsome.
WubShee fears no Clams. 5SS fears no Clams.
Honestly OP, some of those mechs will core you faster than their Clam counterparts. You can spread Clam lazors. You can't really spread the Wub. Half a second compared to over a second.
Mitigate their range by closing. Wub them, then fall back, making half their laser duration scorch the earth. Don't stare them down; torso twist.
I'm honestly going to be sad in CW. I'll be forced to use the inferior Clam mechs; with inferior Wub, worse hitboxes, and lack of shoulder pads (which make twisting oh so effective). But, hey, at least they have 150% heat lasers.

Since you've just come back you'll need to spend some time learning where to shoot on different clan mechs, what ranges you are better off engaging.
You'll also not likely be familiar with all of the new IS quirks or the builds that make the most use of them.
Take some time to familiarize yourself with some of the mechs that got better quirks.
For example there are zero clan mechs I fear in my BNC-3M or 3E, unless it's a Dire Wolf that has me dead to rights in the open in a staring contest.
I'm OK with that, because in every other situation where I have some cover to work with or ability to flank I can usually pull that DWF apart.
Everything I would of wanted to say, you said for me. You even use my absolute favorite chassis. Thanks.

There was a match I had last night...between a ThunderWub and a WubShee, there was 2651 damage and 11 kills...opposite teams though.

Warhawk and Hellbringer are about the same with their IS counterparts in terms of effectiveness.
Summoner (suckoner) are FAR FAR below the IS. Near quickdraw effectiveness.
Yep.
Timber Wolf is the top heavy in the game bar none but it isn't quite a dominant as people love to make it out to be. Best doesn't equal OP. Still this is the only Clan mech in the game that doesn't have an IS counterpart that is its match.
Stormcrow is an excellent heavy however no JJs so that is a pretty big disadvantage compared to say a Shadow Hawk which is tied neck and neck with the Stormcrow from an effectiveness standpoints.
Direwolf is a excellent Assault IF it is supported fully by its team, primarily because it can't engage anything on its flanks and without the team keeping the enemy off its flanks it easily gets picked apart. It is the top dog at the moment but I am fully expecting that the King Crab with its ability to mount pin point damage ACs will equal if not surpass it.
And those are the Tier 1s.
As for the rest:
Warhawk is decent but carries most of its weapons in its arms so can be pretty easily neutralized. Good LRM boat though but this is kind of a waste of the mech. About equal to a Stalker overall though.
Hellbringer is about on par with Quirked Thunderbolts with the slightly OP T-Bolt 5SS being easily a better mech. ECM is more of a gimmick for the Hellbringer because its big size makes it easily noticable and ECM makes it a priority target. It is relatively easily cored, even after the hitbox fix.
Kit Fox can be decent in its ECM support role but is very slow and actually quite large for a 30 ton mech.
Summoner is about as good as an Orion maybe. It has neither the excess tonnage nor the hard points to really be a good mech.
Nova is also a very below average mech and generally is a easy kill due to poor hitboxes, large size and over-reliance on high heat energy weapons without having the excess tonnage to cool those weapons.
Ice Ferret is overspecialized. It excels as light mech hunter but is generally very weak as a medium.
Mist Lynx while not as bad as most people claim is very subpar to the vast majority IS lights.
Adder is just a light that tries to be a medium and fails due to lack of armor, speed and firepower.
And that leaves the two mechs I haven't yet played, the Mad Dog and Gargoyle.
As far as the Mad Dog, I have found any builds on smurfy's that wows me though some seem to really like this mech. As far as the Gargoyle, theorycrafting has it going either way. Likely a best it will be comparable to a Victor and I am not expecting anything remotely like OP out of it.
So aside from the Timber Wolf, the IS has something as good or better (depending on the KC performance of course) and the Timber Wolf isn't so significantly better that a good Cataphract or Victor player can't overcome them.
