So, since we already have a general idea of CW: attack/defend mode using some sort of structure(s) that must be destroyed/protected within a time limit...
What are some of the strangest tactics you can think of?
-
I'm wondering, personally, if these defense targets will be viable LRM targets, making LRMs useful in a competitive setting?
8-10 LRM boats+2-4 suicide lights with TAG/NARC to go designate targets? Try and destroy the targets before the enemy can charge out and hammer you?

The strangest tactic I can think of is anyone brave/foolish enough to try and drop some kind of fluff composed invasion force somewhere.

Yeah, I'm wondering how it is going to be balanced vs LRMs. If we can't use LRMs then nobody will probably take them, but if they are able to be hit at distance (like over walls) then we could see them used.

12 assault mechs hiding behind the doors, powered down hoping for a pants-crapping ambush.

I've been part of an 8man who did something like this once, it was hillarious.
We all sat at spawn and didn't move until the enemy came up close to see all the DC'd atlases.

12 Firestarters for the first Wave should be funny.

Seems to me if you are completely outmatched (say random group vs coordinated 12 man) your best play is to drag the game out for as long as possible to limit that groups impact on the invasion score/token/thing.

For Clams, if there is a large enough corridor...there could be some nasty antics with cERLLs and large TC.
They can reach out and damage you...while you can't touch them. A line of even 6 could cut off a leg pretty quickly.

12 KGCs with STD 100 engines and as much firepower as you can mount.
Or this. I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet honestly

12 Stormcrows - all with 4+ x CSSRM6s focus firing on individual mechs. Or 11 Stormcrows and ECM support (support KFX or Hellbringer) during approach.
I think I remember Vassago Rain demonstrating an 8 man Splatcat (SSRM) team doing the same thing a few years ago. Funny to watch but I doubt not funny to experience.
Other scenarios:

Other scenarios:
- a bunch of TBR's with CERL's and LRMs devastating IS from distance
- a bunch of Dakka Dwolves in close horizontal proximity focus firing on the IS as they try to get through a destroyed gate. A couple of ECM Kitfoxes with multi AMS support and TBRs for laser vomit to back things up...
