IMO it's possible the line "netcode doesn't allow it" is a simplified reason, especially if it wasn't typed as "its not allows w/in the netcode". My salary doesn't allow for travel to the moon, but only because I'm not making moola like Bill Gates. In other words, they may be using far crappier server hardware than what's needed for this or their coders weren't all from the A-list.
BF:BC2 had LOTS of destruction available - to the environment (buildings and trees) and to vehicles. It also supported 33% larger matches (32 players vs 24), had larger maps with much more detail, and was release 3 yrs earlier (2 yrs if you count from MWO's open BETA phase). I recall playing it with a MUCH weaker system w/o any issues (q6600 & hd5770 vs i3570 & hd7850), the only time it would drag is when a building collapsed from a tank's cannon and half the team was a stone's throw away.
Removal Of The River City Statues, Another Sign Of Needing A New Approach To Map Design

I daresay it will be more to do with extra calls to the server.
The devs have already stated that 12v12 is already pushing the extreme limits of what the servers can handle - lots of mechs firing lots of guns with different types of projectiles and damage effects, as well has having to track the exact location of several different components of mechs that have two separate states - if we add too much more, the servers will likely melt into a puddle.
Which is the reason why it should be done in a manner that doesn't require any server calls. Handle it client side under the information the server is already giving the client. Make it exclusively cosmetic changes.

The felled trees at the caustic invasion map are the new statues. Those things might as well be a pirate in my pants because they're driving me nuts.
So the trucks on Mining Collective, the felled trees on Caustic and the steps on Bog being points needing updating. If you have any more then post them please.

Mech movement desperately needs a balance pass.
An assault mech like an atlas cant even walk properly up the stairs on the swamp map.
