No good reason, certainly. But I imagine they're going to inject them while the game is live, no need to take the game down for maintenance while they patch it. At least, that's how UI 2.0 is supposed to work.

It looks like you can only change 1 colour per faction skin. Presumably for Alpha, Beta, Delta galaxy or whatever. So Jade Falcon clans will always be shiny jade green, but you can replace the yellow with another colour.
On Clan Wolf mechs, you can only change the yellow.

Granted. Although the regular clan colours are rather easy to emulate with normal colours and camo patterns, surely?
They want to create some unique skins that people will pay a lot for, while keeping them clean of insignia, so the same people will also buy decals later.

Yeah I totally get it. And hopefully (I dont have any clan mechs) you can paint them up appropriately. Its easy to get IS mechs to look like that with one of the one shots and two colors. But clan mechs seem to all have these weird stripes. I havent seen anyone running around in an iconic paint job yet.
The only ones I see are the Skye Rangers red and black, but thats just people loving red and black, its not specifically them emulating the Skye Rangers.
I see alot of Drac looking mechs...but people just like Red.
And ill bet Jade Falcon has green paint.
Not red, or light blue...
Kind of frustrating. Ive always hoped for some Laio specific patterns or colors, but looking at these, ill just do my own lime greens, whites, reds, and blacks. Id really love to see an exact replication...just once.

There is literally NO reason to lock the paint. It takes no coding effort to implement, doesn't really break lore (and if it does, why does it matter? Unique Clan units/Mercs are going to have different colors, only makes sense to allow them to use their bought camo skins however they choose), and adds to MWO's replayability as a whole. I love to play with color schemes, and they just took that away from me with this design decision.
Maybe they'll patch full paint customization in later? I hope so

Well, at this point it seems like it's some kind of attempt to encourage uniformity for CW. Make all Clan units from the same faction look the same.
PGI has certainly clamped down on customization lately. A lot of hero mechs with virtually no freedom to choose colours (hello Ember) and the Clan non-Invasion variants are all grey with a few drops of paint. A cheap attempt to make everyone buy camo patterns.

Probably figured more bling (shiny, glossy, metallic colours) would sell more than just regular paint. Would have been pretty sweet to keep the same pattern, but with matte desert camo colours, I think.
