So in all this King Crab madness I don't see a single thread about the new Gargoyle.

To those who own one, what's it like??

Looking for an informal review here...compared to the other assaults...

Cheers!

Much like a big football player.

Run pretty fast , but have only about 21 tons of stuff you can put one without removing too much armor.

Its a great mech that run as fast as : Hellbringer, Timber Wolf.
It will shine in a group , but solo, well.

Run in a laser vomit (8medlaser or 2 LLaser + 4 Med)
or the big puncher ( 1Uac/20 + SRM6 + 4 MEdL)

While it runs the same top speed as the hellbringer and timber it doesn't feel very snappy on hills considering a 400xl engine and the accell/decel/turning is bad. To finish it off the ultra low weapon points feel terrible because you need to expose so much to get a decent alpha off. CT gets banged up quick even with twists just not a very good mech imo.

Honestly I wasted a few mil trying to fit some loadouts but its just bad in my eyes and I usually drive mechs everyone else considers bad all the time.

Sure it can do lasers/ppc but thats all, and as it has been said the arm hardpoints are so very low.

Missiles or a big ballistic are hard to do as they are only on the prime arms and you cant do one of them with energy weapons as you will have a wasted hardpoint on the other arm, unless its missiles with mgs and even then its only one missle and one ballistic hardpoint per arm

It's fun to use precisely because it's so limited and represents a bit of a challenge. I have run 2LPL + 4SPL in conquest games with reasonable success. Unfortunately, it suffers from the diminishing-returns way in which engine weight really goes up at higher engine ratings. Basically, it gives us an assault that is as fast as a heavy and has medium-to-heavy firepower.

what about it? fat undergunned TBR, thats all. Nothing special about it, unless the doublegaussassautlcrab the IS has gotten, which makes it unique amongst their assaults.

after around 30 games i am sitting at around 400 average damage per game, which is not that far behind all other Clan Mechs i own, in fact it's better than the Summoner and the Mist Lynx already
considering i am still working on doubling the basics that is not as bad as i first expected.
the mech requires a totaly different playstyle than your average SCR / TBR build and if you can arrange with that, it's a decent chassis.
however i do not think i will ever get to like it as much as i do like my Warhawks, which have - by far - the best stats on all my clan chassis at >700 avg damage per game
oh... builds...

GAR-PRIME

As usual, the regular lazor vommit works the best.

You haven't heard much about it because it's not very good, while the king crab is a monstrous dakka machine.

I've found a few builds that can perform decently, but they're mostly builds you could run to greater effect on a timberwolf or a hellbringer.

Big fast and weaponry while touch on the light side is all pretty close together. Be nice to have some fire power higher up so can occasionally fire over a hill instead of silhouetting your entire body to fire.

But just makes it unique some will love some will hate. Be interesting to see how they Quirk it over time. That being said with 21 tons base space shaving a Jumping TW 5 tons away but with 22 tons of space and default more armor makes it seem rather lackluster.

Been pulling down 5 and 6 kill matches with uac5/uac2/ermed combo. Hang in the second line and suppress while big boys engage, reposition often. Gets better as it levels up, it's a big Dragon without the nose.

Overall, the Prime and D are worth keeping.. the A however is not something I am a big fan of (needs a center torso hardpoint...)

These are what I run....
For the A -> 1x LB20X, 4x MERL (Prime Right Arm).. Sometimes I drop 1x MERL for a heat sink....
For the D -> 1x AC20, 6x SERL, TC 1 (Prime Right Arm, A Left Arm)
For the Prime -> 1x LB20X, 3x MERL, AMS (Prime Left Arm, A Right Arm)

For me I find I kill alot but you have to RUN FULL SPEED all the time.... I have been finding King Crabs and other Assaults that can't turn worth jack are getting owned by these... Most kills in 1 game: 6

Sorry but this thing is almost like a Summoner, where it needs one big AC/LBX to get behind and then support...

This will sound bad... but I enjoy my Cylons...

I like to run my clan mechs with their stock omnipods. That way they are different. I did break down and put ECM on all my Kit Foxes after people complaining in-game about what a mistake it was to run a KF without ECM. They were right. For the Gargoyle-A, I loaded 2xLL and 4xML. On the GAR-D, 6xMPLs are fun. I have not found a loadout I like on the Prime. At first I tried to run 2xUAC5 and a ERPPC, like I do on my 65 ton Hellbringer-B. The 80 ton Gargoyle can't carry that loadout unless I strip it of a lot of armor. So It was 2xUAC5 and a ML, but that is too light. I lose to anything near my weight. Now I'm trying a more support build with 2xLRM20s, 2xMG, and a ML. I'm also running 1xAMS and Clan Active Probe. The trouble is that it does not have the capacity to carry much ammo. I carry about 3-1/2 tons of LRMS w/Artimus, 1xton AMS and 1xton MG ammo. I need more LRM ammo. Armor will probably have to go, and I'll probably reduce the MG ammo to 1/2 ton to add at least another ton of LRM ammo.
