For Christmas, would it be possible for each player to get a "Free" Mech bay or Cockpit item (an older item). Perhaps even both?

We probably will. But if not, PGI may say something like,
"Merry Christmas! And Community Warfare for everyone! Oh and also don't forget we gave you the King Crab and Gargoyle early, so ya better not pout! Be merry and joyful! It's Jesus' Birthday after all. ... So go out and play some MWNog, MechWarriors!".

But that's just my mental image of what might happen. One can imagine, right?
