Game needs money to keep getting updates. old players that have funded this game to this point could buy anything they want. Once the release of C-bills for stuff that used to cost 90% or more of cash flow is gone and its GG

As said above its due to cash flow. Cockpit items and Colours are one of teh few things which CAN be sold for MCs without players complaining about pay to win situations as these things are purely asthetic and contribute only to making the mechs better looking without giving a better performance in any way (although the Hula Girl is a bit OP).

You can still make a mech look fancy with C-bills. Plus, on the bright side, PGI has been recently putting on cockpit item sales/challenges so you can look to that! Also, CW will give lots and lots of free stuff, check the loyalty page for info on that. https://static.mwome...ks_Rewards2.pdf

Some loads of MC for camo (which hopefully more are set in CW) and some free cockpit items and mechbays! :)

Subj things does not affect gameplay, it is for fun. You can play for free with success. All stuff that affects you can buy for c-bills.
Sometimes developers make discounts ;)

there are several paints available for cbills, however these are not the nicest colours.

and as mentioned above check the weekend events (most weekend since august there has been an event which usualy includes a challange, complete the chalange to earn a prize) because these have included cockpit items and other content which is usualy only available for MC

because the game is a f2p you need to pay developers and servers to keep the game running and in developement. Thos epeople cna not live by happy gamers and love alone.
most other f2p games would offer you some borderline or clearly pay to win features instead.

And since cockpit and camo aren't essential things in the game that enhance your performance, thats a good and valid thing.

Further, if you play this game, at specific points, PGi makes some events where you can gather MC or specific cockpit items. Just keep track on the events and you will also have a decorated cockpit and stuff.

CW will grant you up to 4k MC + mechbays, so thats a lot actually you can freemium for.

Because digital elves worked hard to create those items and deserved to be paid for them!

But mostly to keep the lights on and the help fed @ PGI's offices. And I'm cool with that  [obviously... perhaps a little too cool with that. {glances at tags} ]

To get you to spend money.

It's either camo patterns and cockpit items for real cash... or it is special equipment for real cash which becomes "pay to win."

I'll take the camo and decals over gold ammo and AC's. :D

Because $$$. Making games costs money. People gotta make a living man. Many game developers mess a game up and make a game that makes you buy something with real money but the items has a time limit. Thats not right. Know why clothes with cool designs cost money? Goods and Services. $20 can buy many peanuts. (Lol) You can't set your self apart from the others if you don't spend money. Boy if I didn't know any better I would say I was high. But I'm not.

I've spend money twice on this game now, both this year's and last year's Black Friday sale. Added up that is still less than the hourly rate my company charges other companies for my services (I'm in a particular IT niche), which is about 3 times the amount they pay me to work for them. Skilled personel is expensive. (and I dont consider myself exceptionally skilled in my field either, 'just' higly skilled.) :)

because they are vanity items ... VANITY... just in case you missed that point. So instead of making the game pay to win in order to make money, they make it pay to look pretty, sound pretty or have a pretty dashboard item. And you are seriously complaining about this?

Slow clap for you sunshine... you earned it.

There are some very limited free options, and later in 2015 CW will offer rewards you can earn instead of buy. Cockpit items often show up as event or contest rewards. Way back in the day PC gamer gave away camo & colours.

The real answer is, of course, money. As a free to play game with ongoing server and development costs, microtransactions including vanity items help pay the bills.

People don't like drab video game characters and every game developer knows people are willing to pay for vanity items and visual customization.

PGI is now free of the tether of their old publisher, though, and seems willing to open up some visual customization as Community Warfare mode rewards (eventually)

Aesthetics are the one way for FTP games to make money (thus survive so others can play truly for free) without generating a lot of "Pay2Win" heat.

If they were for CBills something else that was used a lot would cost MC. And you do not want your ammo to be that :P

there are some nice "basic" colors you can buy with C-bills, Or wait for standard to go on sale.. 7 bucks will get you 4 colors and 3 one time camos.. that is not a bad deal..
