Two reasons:
1. It makes them more money
2. No one in the community has revolted about it.

They'll get away with what the community allows them to get away with. The community is either so apathetic, or distracted about all the other ballsy cash grab moves that Premium time has thus far slipped under the revolt radar.

I would probably spend money (other then mechbays those hardly count) on the game if they did, but I can clearly tell with my schedule that buying Premium Time would be a massive mistake. Their loss I guess.

Noticed that. Patch 1/3 with size around 190 MB, there's just no way it's our usual hotfix. Will see what kind of surprise when it's done....muahahaha
