like the title says where is the money potential in this game long term? the competitive whale? The guy just having fun?
personally i abhor people that look down on others for just wanting to have fun. It's a GAME. make your game about the competitive player and you lose lots of players. more players more money.

LoL works competitve,
MWO not, 80% are puggers, so making a focus on competition isn't working.

But yeah the true question is when and where and how to make money later.
Allow people gifting and streamers can gift stuff by advertising the game. Some people then would make torunaments with prizes, or just some fun events with prizes. This allows those with money to spend it and gift stuff to others who dont wan't or can spend money.

maybe even some true politics liek "corruption" and treachery can happen in CW, when I pay some emchbays to soemone making him attack a specific world instead of mine. Because Imagine:

FRR and clan wolf are batltign at a border, yet also Ghostbears annoy me there, yet they only cna do this by owning planet X.
Then I make a little "event" saying that next Unit owning Planet X will get 10 mech bays for whatever member they choose.
I could maybe get rid of the gjost bear thread then. And the conquering unit may not attack me, because I giftes dtsuff to them, becaue you usually do not bite the hand that feeds you.

gifting would add so much fun to the game.

No matter where it is or if PGI would like to focus more on the casual or hardcore crowd; i'm still baffled by the seemingly deliberate punishment of new players. Seriously, i have NO idea how i got through my cadet bonus without at least a minor fit of raging madness (back in the stock build trial mech days no less).

Kind of makes me wonder how many potential players have been lost to this; who might have been in either camp...

so true, but at this point if you were actually an old Mechwarrior palyer you just knew: I am new, I need to lern, I need to upgrade my mech.

But someone totally new to the mechwarrior universe just would think the game is a bad one with p2w stuff and a grindfest.
Yet I still threw away my first account because I made a not so proper decision at buying a mech.

Git my cadete stuff, bought a yen lo wang, wanted to go 150kph and spammign srms as the mech I saw doing so.
Figured our the one I bought still needs like 5 mio for a proepr engine.

So what choice was there? painfully tryign to survive in an underengined medium gathering 5 million? NOPE, just made a new account and invested the cadetbonus in something better.
bought a DDC, probably not the entirely best choice, since a slow butt assault isn't the best to start with either, but it was a matter of skill to make the mech better and not a mater of grinding 5 million c-bills with a non working mech build.

today I would suggets every newcomer to get cadete boni and save further or a TBR, because that mehc is perfect for experimenting, since it cna do everything. Back then after the DDC I had chosen aphract because the only IS mech withchicken legs and real arms.
