I had an idea for CW that could make the battles for planetary control seem more like campaigns, and not make the older maps obsolete.

Why not have each battle be a best of three, with the outcome of each battle determining the parameters of the next battle?

For example:

Round 1 could be a regular skirmish or assault mode on one of the existing maps. Whichever side wins that round would then defend the base in Round 2. There would be no respawns in Round 1, but each 'mech would count as one of your 4 in the dropdeck. If you survive, you can take it to round 2, with the opportunity to switch 'mechs before the start of the next round. In the event of atie in round 1, the home faction would defend.

Round 2 would be as CW is now, but with (probably) one fewer wave. (less need to buff defense)
If the defender wins round 2, the battle is decided. (Best 2 out of 3)
If the attacker wins round 2, they would then defend in round 3 for the deciding battle.

I feel that this would make zerging in round 2 more costly, as leaving more enemy 'mechs alive would leave them there for the inevitable counterattack in round 3. It would also add a layer of strategy, as planning which 'mechs to take in each wave and round becomes more important. You could even keep a damaged 'mech from round 1 as your last best hope in round 3.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or improvements?

Any reasons against?
