Yeah, sorry. Victors was dumb luck. When I have an 892 damage done match, with 11 assists - an average of 81 damage a mech (Likely much more focused with some tickles, let's be honest) - and many 'kill, most damage dones' on the things I was focused on? I'm sorry. I was WAY more beneficial to my team than I was in the bad match I had <100 damage and lucked out in getting a kill shot with that random ERLL snap shot I took. And while that 892 damage match was a particularly egregious example, there were at least 6 other matches that weekend I would've gotten the Bridesmaid achievement had I not already had it. (Most damage, but no kills). And a bunch of other 500+ damage ones. But because I'm pretty much a Beam player, I kept losing my kills to some random Ballistic snap shot that just came around the corner or the LRM swarm that hit them. And missing the kill even though I was the main damage dealer!
This is even more true for Laser players like me. I find missiles boring and much too easy (Though Missile Spam was how I had to finish it all the same), and miss enough I hate the all or nothing of Ballistics. So it's Lasers and Pulse Lasers for me.
And as was stated, the people who hid when they did their job. It happened more than enough.
Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of awesome chivalry out there. the Last Light Left ™ who messaged where he was and politely asked that the other team let someone who needed the kill get him. Teams actively working to just leg last surviving mechs or take off limbs so someone who needed the kill could catch up and get it. That was awesome. But in general, happened a lot less than the 'hide' play. Maybe not at the high ends in the group queue (where I got the majority of my points - dropping with a friend who regularly ends up with us against Lords and 228 and such). But in solo drops in the mid range ELO and below like when I am playing myself? It was endemic.
