I am a critic of the Victor challenge, have been vocal during the weekend, and I never said it had nothing to do with skill. And it wasn't the most common complaint either. What people were complaining about was the way the challenge promoted really dumb play.

It did and didn't. It entirely depended on whom was in your PUG Drop at the time.
The majority of my matches we had players asking whom needed a kill and those whom got a kill were told to hang back so those with Armor and such could tank some of the damage for them. There were many players helping those reach the goal.
Although yes, we did see some stupidity and lack of teamwork too. Spiders with 1 kill 1 assist hiding in the far corners of Caustic Shut down, hoping for the rest of us to pull off the win.
But that didn't happen nearly as much as the team co-ordination, at least from my perspective.

Critics of the Victor challenge claimed skill had nothing to do with it, that it was entirely random whether you would get it done in 20 or 200 matches. Sadly, convincing them otherwise has not been a fruitful endeavour.

It was statistics not randomness. It was also why I stayed out. My Best Mech has a 1.0 KDr. So I die once for every Kill I get. It would have been mathematically improbable to win a Victor.

One kill one assist stay alive win. That is going to be very challenging if you don't use a bit of caution.

So, this is to give us money for modules yet the top price doesn't pay for the module you actually want to buy. Unless the tiers stack it doesn't really make sense. Oh well, free cbills

They do, each tier pays out that reward so if you get all three tiers you gain 7 9 million C-Bills and 7,000 9000 GXP total. A few of weapon modules, or one of the primary mech modules.

EDIT: misread the payouts

All three tiers would total 9,000gxp and 9,000,000 c-bills.

Yeah, sorry. Victors was dumb luck. When I have an 892 damage done match, with 11 assists - an average of 81 damage a mech (Likely much more focused with some tickles, let's be honest) - and many 'kill, most damage dones' on the things I was focused on? I'm sorry. I was WAY more beneficial to my team than I was in the bad match I had <100 damage and lucked out in getting a kill shot with that random ERLL snap shot I took. And while that 892 damage match was a particularly egregious example, there were at least 6 other matches that weekend I would've gotten the Bridesmaid achievement had I not already had it. (Most damage, but no kills). And a bunch of other 500+ damage ones. But because I'm pretty much a Beam player, I kept losing my kills to some random Ballistic snap shot that just came around the corner or the LRM swarm that hit them. And missing the kill even though I was the main damage dealer!

This is even more true for Laser players like me. I find missiles boring and much too easy (Though Missile Spam was how I had to finish it all the same), and miss enough I hate the all or nothing of Ballistics. So it's Lasers and Pulse Lasers for me.

And as was stated, the people who hid when they did their job. It happened more than enough.

Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of awesome chivalry out there. the Last Light Left ™ who messaged where he was and politely asked that the other team let someone who needed the kill get him. Teams actively working to just leg last surviving mechs or take off limbs so someone who needed the kill could catch up and get it. That was awesome. But in general, happened a lot less than the 'hide' play. Maybe not at the high ends in the group queue (where I got the majority of my points - dropping with a friend who regularly ends up with us against Lords and 228 and such). But in solo drops in the mid range ELO and below like when I am playing myself? It was endemic.

I guess its just participate in 30CW matches, to make the people join the beta and help testing and gathering info from the beta.

That would be my guess, PGI has been known to use challenges and tournaments to gather data on specific things.

This is actually more true than most people realize. PGI has to find out what's wrong with CW and fix it ASAP before people stop playing CW because it's broken. This is why it's labelled "Beta". The more people try it out, the faster they can identify and fix the problems. I'm awash in cbills and GXP so I won't be a guinea pig this weekend.

The numbers thing is exactly right. And these challenges typically are meant for such data mining, because they do encourage lots of people to play.

Hopefully queues won't be so bad as by the weekend missing unit leaders have had a chance to get online, patch, and choose a faction. Then everyone in the unit is able to start participating. Which was and still is a huge part of the issue of the wait times. My own GL didn't get on until late last night, after I had to get to bed due to work shifts. that is probably a very common occurrence.

So once everyone can get involved, and the weekend proper begins, things should go better.

Yeah guess you are still in the PUG Que Phule? Dropped in a 9 man Law drop yesterday... Good to see disciplined fire control again! :) ^_^

Keep in mind I play at weird hours, as far as US players are concerned.

I've looked at it and it looks cool. Downside is that the server population is kind of low when I play so.....it's either play in the solo queue or sit around in a lobby for a couple of hours until it's ready to drop.

I won't be able to check it out tonight or tomorrow night (tonight is pool league, tomorrow is pathfinder night) but Sunday......I would imagine around 7pm on Sunday, it'll be full.

My drop deck is kinda weird....got a 4 CLPL Warhawk, a TBR-P, a Nova and a KFX. Not a single LRM on them, which may be a problem. Can't wait to see how they work.

It should be a bit faster on Saturday and Sunday, when most of the players don't have to work or go to school.
