Why Does It Say Defend If It Is An Counter-Attack?

This needs to be fixed.

Why?

Because as soon as an attacking force gets a attack point on a planet, the others have to claim that point back, by attacking their own base to clear it off from the original attackers.
Thats a so called counter-attack in the game.

However, most times counter-attacks happen to not have any opponents, meaning you attack a planet with no enemy, claim your point back and go home.

Yes its a type of defending (since you are claiming your point back from the attackers) but since its a much different action than actually defending it should be called Counter-Attack in the lower left pop up and not defend.

Because knowing that most of the time you are counter-attacking against no pilots, I would never click on that.

Either let me defend (knowing there IS an enemy to play against) or let me attack and win attack points.

You're defending your planet by counter-attacking the invaders.

Seems pretty straight forward. If they have a win on the planet it would make sense that they would have some sort of base of operations set up for further attacks. A counter-attack is defense.

Take the perception to one more level above.

You are thinking "defend" as in "play this match as defense", when the "defend" means defend the planet from being conquered. That means if you're planet has lost more than half the points, you need to get some points back to prevent the planet from switching.

The thing is

Being a defender (meaning not attacking a base, just defending) is guaranteeing me that I have opponents to play against.
Counter-Attacks don't.

My problem is, when we defend a counter attack, we don't gain or lose any zones
But when they defend our attack, we lose a zone.

why is that fair? Its already a pain in the ass to win 10 times in a row while defending against counter attacks.

Attacking can be defense.

There are two issues here:

1. Defending a base (the team behind the wall) requires a different strategy, different dropdeck, but you're guaranteed a fight
2. Counter-attack on your planet is a different dropdeck (attack dropdeck), good for holding your turf, but you may walk into an empty base.

BOTH OF THESE ACTIONS ARE LABELED THE SAME WHEN YOU TAKE A CONTRACT. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. If you change the description on the contract, all is well.

If you've ever played Red Orchestra, the attack/counter-attack thing will be very familiar. Think of an assault on a planet as a numerical slider starting at ZERO:

[ 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 ]

An attacker battle results in a victory. That slider moves right one tick.

[ 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 ]

The battles rage on. Attackers meet with some success, and move the slider all the way to 4. But say the defenders get a chance to counter-attack, and it results in a victory. Well, the attackers now lose some ground they gained. The slider goes from four:

[ 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 ]

to three:

[ 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 ]

Remember, these aren't static locations we're fighting over. These two maps are supposed to represent territory spread across a whole planet. So like any front lines, you get and you give depending on the flow of battle.

I'm not saying it makes complete sense game wise, just probably the reason why it's called "defense" :)
