What a better way to acquire Mechs do you guys think?
Fight a battle and saving C-Bills for buying better stronger Mechs?
or salvage it in battle?

I think a system of both would be very interesting.

One you can get c-bills for fighting as well as exp, but then if you are the winning team there is also a random salvage part as a bonus. I am not sure how well this will play out, but I agree with having to save c-bills to buy a mech. I also want mechs to have the ability to be destroyed in battle so there is a element of risk with it.

The whole does the risk of mechs lost = Total Reward.

Any non-destroyed part of an enemy mech can be salvaged after battle with a % of success. Overall, I think every member of the winning Lance or get a part or don't, since it is frustating to see you pal gain a shiny laser and you nothing. This over the basic reward system of (C-Bill of the contract) + (bonus c-bill for enemy part destroyed) + (bonus c-bill for mech destroyed) + (miscellaneous)
The defeated lance member do not lose his part (to avoid a downward spiral to failure), but have to pay the repair of the destroyed parts.

Both. Also include Auction House for buy/sell.

I would love to both of these. Where the best quality stuff was at the House store, or some sort of chain "big box" store, lower quality was at an auction house, and very questionable stuff on the black market.

Rather the black market should sell stuff that you cannot get.... That might cost a princely amount like say, a Clan ERPPC from NPC sources.
Auction house should be player to player trading I hope.
House store could be standard NPC house offerings.

House store would offer house items, specific mech's and or techs related to the house.

Big box store, the best buy of mech's and mach parts, would sell generic mech's and mech parts.

Auction house would be the used mech lot. Primarily user to user trade but a number of NPC trying to make a buck..

Black market shady characters and questionable origins of mech parts. Cheap but of questionable reliability. and very rare and expensive items like a clan ERPPC

Oh yeah i would also like to see that there is one or more dev's that is really interested in game economics. While not my field of choice, It is becoming more and more important in large games like this.

hehe lively discussion, it should be all of the above, but beware of peer to peer trading, that is the bane of f2p games, there will be some who create cartels etc.... I think c-bills will be the way in the end, specific to contractual payments for certain things, and finally, the real deal cashola will come in to play for some minor mods, like skins etc...

I'd like a salvage system if I can have a free market to sell all my junk to...

So yeah, a system of both sounds great.

My biggest concern with the game is going to cost of loss vs. cost of mechs. Is a Mech destroyed after a single loss? Obviously not. So are Mech's "rentals" - i.e. you buy the Mech with c-bills, but only purchase it for 7 days or perhaps 20 battles? This seems ok, but feels a little disjointed from reality. That, and it's too much like the many FTP shooters from Korea. Maybe a "durability" scale works as well - i.e. the mech is considered "destroyed" after it has been blown up X number of times during matches. To my mind, there is no method that feels perfect.

And this does not even address the issue of destroyed/damaged components.

It should be all and nothing imho. Being a f2p model, you should be able to salvage kills, gets rewarded with Cbills and salvage after battles and lose mechs if you get routed. A Balck Market and Auction house should be available for those who are successful and for those who are not , well you just gonna have to try harder or bring out that credit card to buy yourself back into the game.
