Long ago in early beta before all the details of CW and how it would work were released a few of us were planning a Faction unit and I pitched a few ideas about organization and roles within the unit up to a regiment in size at one of or meetings.
I would like to suggest the current chat tag for merc corps and faction units to be expanded. A three to four letter designation is just to small to show what unit you belong to and your current status within that unit.
I think your current rank with your merc corp should show before your name and then unit tag after.

Officer roles:
My suggested breakdown of Officer positions within a Regiment, which can be scaled up or down to suit a unit of any size. Just some Ideas we can expand upon or remove at your suggestion.
CO =Commanding Officer, self explanatory.
(Rank = Colonel)
XO = Executive Officer, Training Coordinator and Administration, works hand in hand with the AO.
(Rank= Leftenant Colonel or Major)
IO = Intelligence Officer, Responsible for gather intelligence and opposing House data on scheduled matches sanctioned by the Commanding Officer.
(Rank= Major)
CSM = Supply & Logistics Officer, TBD based on what they put into the game.
(Rank= Command Sergeant Major)
RO = Battalion Recruiting Officer, Responsible for All the Battalion Recruiting and Manning, subject to approval of the CO and XO. Reports manning and rosters to AO weekly.
(Rank= Leftenant)
AO = Administration Officer, Responsible for maintaining all of the Battalion and Regimental records, to include Win/Loss stats vs. other Houses or Merc units, Mercs under contract, Enemies, Allies and current rosters. All AOs can and will share records.

Company Commander = self explanatory.
(Rank= Captain)
NCO = Non Commissioned Officers, self explanatory.
(Ranks = Recruit (RCT), Private (PVT), Private First Class (PFC), Corporal(CPL), Sergeant (SGT), Sergeant Major (SGM), Command Sergeant Major (CSM))

COL. Corsair [CO 1st FC] = would read as Regimental Commanding Officer

MAJ. Corsair [RO/2 1st FC] = would read as 2nd Battalion, Recruiting Officer
Or
CPT. Corsair [1/B/3 1st FC] = would read as 3rd Battalion, Bravo Company, Lance 1, Company Commander
Or
LT. Corsair [2/C/1 1st FC] = would read as 1st Battalion, Charlie Company, Lance 2, Lance Commander
Or
NCO Corsair [3/A/2 1st FC] = would read as 2nd Battalion, Alpha Company, Lance 3, NCO Pilot

Lance names:
Each Lance Commander will be required to name their lance. Something that is appropriate that will not bring discredit upon the Company or the Regiment as a whole. Lances will still retain the number value for short form unit designation in the chat handle.
I have tried to include as many examples as possible to illustrate my ideas. Please let me know if you have any questions on them or other inputs.

I would just use the U.S. Army ranking list, and depending whether your unit is anything from a division to a section, the ranks would extend all the way up until you hit the CO of said Unit. (Ex. The 42nd Inf. Division would be lead by someone of the rank Major General, and the ranking list would go no higher then that)
