Battle of Luthien
The assault took everyone by surprise. Following a sudden communications blackout a huge clan Smoke Jaguar invasion force appeared above the sky of Luthien. While gaining the initial upper hand and making good progress the Clanners were unable to hold on to the majority of key military installations when the DCMS poured out from their hidden underground bunkers and ambushed the enemy approaching the gates of Imperial City.
At the height of the battle two clusters of Clan Smoke Jaguars battlemechs along with several binaries were surrounded outside the city. The scale of the fighting was enormous as reinforcements from the New Star League used hidden jumppoints and were able to successfully bypass the blockade to land their forces. After suffering appalling losses the Clans did the unthinkable. With their tails tucked between their legs the Jaguars withdrew. Surprisingly, messages intercepted from Clan Galaxy Commander Prussian Havoc were heard actually praising the DCMS for the opportunity to engage in such challenging conquests. This victory came at a huge cost to the defenders with heavy casualties reported among the elite DCMS units Night's Scorn and the 6th Rangers.
In wake of this climactic battle the Jaguars changed strategy. Licked but not beaten, the crack Jaguar unit Smoke Adders completely encircled Luthien by capturing the worlds of Yumesta, Leiston, and Chatham in a lightening blitz. The Clan containment zone and complete superiority in warships prevented reinforcements from reaching the affected worlds in time. In addition the Merc Unit Varangian Guard has now switched from the Inner Sphere and helped the Clanners to seize Killmarnok. Calls for a Mercenary Review Board grow louder as some Merc Units are clearly playing both sides in this conflict.
FWLM Sarna March Offensive Update
The recent FWLM offensive into the Sarna March has captured the worlds of Zurich, Aldebaran and Nanking from the Federated Suns. The Marik Gunfighter Alliance then spearheaded an attack on the rich agricultural world of Liao. The League forces penetrated deep across the endless grasslands but were spread thin capping important centers of resistance.
Local inhabitants concealed the Australasian Royal Mechanised Division who were then able to group up outside the Forbidden City and mount a surprise counterattack on the MGA supply depot and dropships. No serious assets were lost but the confusion allowed the Davion Loyalists Aces Wild to gain the upper hand in the Boreal Forest on the island continent of Anderia. Discretion is of course the better part of valor as the dropships returned for an orderly withdrawal of FWLM units.
Free Raselhague Republic Fights On
The Republic is now down to 13 planets including Tukayyid and the beleaguered capital of RaselHague. Tukayyid was reoccupied by the KungsArme before handing the world over to the Comstar's Elite PGI Division under a cloud of secrecy. What Comstar has in store for Tukayyid is unknown but promises to become an unprecedented event in our community warfare.
A number of FWLM affiliated Merc units are currently fighting for the FRR safeguarding the future of the galaxy. Lets all give a big cheer to the recent success of Black Widow Company in the defense of Domain and to Seraphim for the defense of Thun. Keep up the good fight!
The Trouble with Kurita
The Draconis Combine leaders have always regarded the decentralized powers in the League as an example of the wrong way to govern. Over time this has been expressed with a not so secret desire to take over the League and impose their authoritarian ways on us. This would not be good for business. The Combine's narrow victory at Luthien only underscores the importance of coming together and putting aside our differences before it is too late. This hope is what the New Star League represents.
With the wormhole closed and the Dieron district back in Combine hands relations are slowly warming. Good fences make good neighbors and the lack of an easy attack corridor has made as much as an impact for peace than all the veiled threats and insults exchanged across diplomatic channels have done to counter it. Still the prospect of an Inner Sphere wide soft-ceasefire remains remote as relations between House Kurita and House Davion are almost non-existent.
Unrest in Skye
Discontent grows in the Federation of Skye as losses continue to mount for the Federated Commonwealth. The fall of key worlds in the Tamar March has spurred separatist feelings in Skye at the perceived lack of strong leadership. This has shaken faith in the ability of the LCAF to protect Skye. Uncertainty reins in this industrial heartland as the LCAF sacrifices soldiers in holding actions in an effort to prove their resolve in protecting all members of the Commonwealth.
Meanwhile battles continue to rage in the Pandora Operations Area as the 12th Donegal defends Orkney from attacks by Clan Jade Falcon. The League has graciously shown its peaceful intentions and ideals by avoiding serious conflict on the Steiner border.
