I bought a stormcrow thinking I'd take it into CW, but as it turns out I can't do that due to being in another faction. Is there anything ingame that mentions you can't use X mech in CW because you're not in the right faction?

Any Chance To Get A Refund On Mech?

If you contact support I think you get 1 "mistake". So I think they will refund if you ask them.
I used mine on accidentally buying a mech for MC when I meant to buy it for cBills.

Yes it's been stated again and again. Join a Clan faction to use Clan tech in CW or wait awhile for them to add the salvage idea later on.

The faction contract selection screen does not mention that IS factions are unable to use clan mech and vise versa. In my option that needs to be added. It makes sense due to lore and I think I saw it mentioned somewhere in a developer post but it should not be assumed that everyone will know before they lock in a faction.

If you're brand new to the game and haven't followed it at all previously, sure that sucks. But if you've been around for over a month and have somehow missed the enormous amounts of information given out about CW, well, we all knew it was coming.
I'd recommend keeping it if you plan to try clans at all or play in regular matchmaking, it's a great mech.

I never understood why they don't default on

I sorta fired up MWO again after like a year or so when I heard its alright again.
I just feel important details should be in the game, the forums isn't the first place I turn to unless theres something I run into ingame first.
The stormcrow seems alright from a few matches , but I don't know how I feel about a mech I can sometimes use if I'm not doing CW. Would much rather have mechs I can always run than be unable to use X mech cause of faction.

I've been around now for a month or two now, and I agree the in-game explaination of basic game concepts has been extremely poor. My current understanding of the game required visits to 3rd-party sites, my own past experience with Battletech, and the occasional blog post.
