I did once, but the enemy didn't even bother dropping against us so..not much of a challenge.

Several times. It is possible to win, even without a Zerg rush. Good focus fire and a properly timed push can win the day.

we did once, otherwise all wins were defend or enemy wipe outs.

Orbital cannon could be hitted with long-range weapons from the gate distance (1200-1300m) but defender's aircrafts return fire and I'm not shure - take it damage or not.

I guess a 12 man light rush is the easiest way to do it.

Anyway, in a big group we managed to do it a bunch of times by advancing and fighting, hard work though, and usually only a few minutes left. Defense is usually a piece of cake in a big group, unless maybe if you get the light rushers.
