I remember that game having a passcode to launch... where it had a picture of a mech and you had to look it up in the manual and type in the clearance code... rudimentary copy protection of the time I guess

I still have that manual in my closet of BT items

I played it on a x286... man I feel old...

Great game, groundbreaking for its time, it's free as abandon-ware now IIRC but you probably cant get it to run on a modern OS.

eta: I loved the Rifleman shooting those big polygon projectiles

I played MW 1 a lot in my first year of university. Some of the guys I was in residence with starting playing it too so there were always alpha strike jokes during classes. One of the better games I had for my new, blazing fast (12MHz) 286. Still wish I had it around (my be but I've got a lot of computer junk boxes).

I played that first PC game back when I was about 10 years old. That was my introduction to Mechwarrior. That was the best game ever.

I love the original game, think back it was very impressive for the time it came out. I used to play it repeadely, I probably played through 4 or 5 times. My cat loved the sound effects for some reason, and would curl up next to the computer and purr whenever she heard lasers firing.

I remember racing down the the local TAFE collage (Australia) after school because my pc was not powerful enough to play it, it was a Dos game so you had to close windows on the awesome IBM 386 state of the art computer. Ahh such bad graphics and crude game mechanics, what a blast....

I can remember playing Mechwarrior(never played Crescent Hawks ). Mostly because it was last night..
I first saw it on my friends computer, his brother was playing it. The computer was a 386-66 I think. I was hooked, TT or video game I love it all. I have a link for a DL http://www.classic-p...echwarrior.html you will need DOSbox or some DOS emulator to run it. Tons of fun after getting around the utter lack of actual DOS in any windows product anymore.

i have also played since it was tabletop. i remember many a night getting yelled at by my father to go to be and send my friends home!

what game had the fly mech? the super small one that was incredably fast?

That game is why I love the Battlemaster. On the other hand, I use to take battlemasters out with the locust by just running up on him and blowing his leg off.

I have been playing in the BT universe since it was a board game. I had a host of friends from school who graduated and were working at the atari plant in the bay area of CA so I was hooked on gaming during the atari and commador days. I loved all the MW games but noticed the quality of content was starting to slip. They just seemed to release them to grab what money was out there before it went out of style. MW Mercs was extreamly fun and has a que system that would adapt quite well to most MMO,s today and one of the reasons I have been withdrawling for years hoping someone could get my mech gaming fix on. All I got to say is, it's about damn time!

I'm sure I've posted this sort of stuff in other threads. MWO is starting to get me interested again in everything Battletech related after a small hiatus.

I originally started with Crescent Hawks' Revenge, then the original MechWarrior, CH Inception, Mechforce, MW2 and everything released for the PC relating to Battletech/MechWarrior afterwards. I still play the TT game.

It's great to see so many 'old timers' here - those of us on the wrong end of our 30s or beyond!

I played Mechwarrior when they ported it to the SNES... I didn't have a computer for much of my childhood. [I'm 27] My actual first experience with Battletech/Mechwarrior was in the pods out in San Diego out at Virtual World Sandiego, played for 2 days, went by the name Thunder.

after that I was introduced to Mechwarrior 2 [on my dad's computer]

Then I was hooked.

i remember it fondly since its the first pc game i played with my dad and it was alot of fun going on contracts and then killing enemies i liked to use the fast locust no missles just lasers cuz then i could take off thier arms and legs and cripple them lol
