Hey there. Looking at how BattleTech is run as a text/hex RPG and my prior experience in MechWarrior is limited to MW3 and 4, the Front Mission series stood out as a good game to me a few years ago. A tactical RPG with mechs, you had customization with parts, weapons, and computer systems. The storytelling was good, especially 3 for the PS1 and FM1 for SNES (emulated/translated) or DS. Are there any other fans of the series that are MW fans? Does it hold up to BattleTech or Mech Commander? Curious to know what you think.

Yo, im a Front mission fan as well, still have my copy of 4 on the PS2. As for standing up with MC or TT, well there different styles of games. Mech commander being real time after all, and TT not really playing the same way. (As far as I know, there arnt many things like counter attacks in the same turn, front mission doesn't use heat, and TT no AP etc) there both fun, but I wouldn't compare them too much other than genre and the ability to customize.

Ah I see. Yeah, haven't played any of those other games. Wonder if there is some turn-based strategy for MW, but good to know somebody else remembers, heh.

I miss Front Mission, but somewhere someone decided that Turn Based Tactical RPGs can only come out on handhelds.

i loved front mission 3. (i bought 4 and lasted 20minutes...) my interest in them sprang from my adoration of Mechwarrior and Battletech, but as Foxmoan pointed out, they dont quite line up when placed side by side.
however, i would say that the level of individulization for the mechs/pansers is present in both, and now with the new skills tree will be more akin to FM3 and the skills you could learn.
i remember making quite the team in FM3 that resembled my mechwarrior tactics. (missles hammering down far back with precise long range sniping, and a brawler cleaning up in close)

Wouldn't mind more FM games on handheld. Making do by playing FM3 on my modded PSP. Hooray the necessity of NYC public transit.
If MWO ever gets Body Smash, it'll be broken. Still, it's a step up to have a skill tree for customization.

Well, if you want turn based MW, you can always down load MegaMek. Its a free, open source PC version of the Battletech Tabletop Game. I have it, and play it all the time. Here's a link. http://megamek.info/

On that note, yeah Ive never played 3 but I want to. Ive thought about emulating it, but I dont really have a nice PC controller beyond my good ol' Cyborg X.
Also, 4 may not be as good as 3, but at least its not Front Mission Evolved
