Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I cant seem to figure out how to drop a CW match with friend in unit. always seems to drop one of us and not the other.

If you are in the same unit (and I don't just mean faction... like, he's on your team's roster), then you want create a "unit group" by selecting the unit tab on your friends list, and use the "Create Unit Group" button (not sure if those are the exact words). If you're creating a "Public Group", you're doing it wrong.
Add other players from this interface. You know this is a "CW group" when tonnage limits are showing instead the older 3/3/3/3 counter that you are generally used to.
