Yet to see this but will this game match players by skill or the random dumb luck factor where you can go up against a team full of good players and your team if full of the can't hit a mountain with a laser crew.
Nothing beats have the game (match) heavily decided against you or for you before the match even starts.

Yes I agree, god help us if the match maker ends up like a certain tanks game I used to play

Game is not even open beta and the first "OMG MM" threads start up. Gotta love teh internetz...
BTW, the matchmaker in that certain tank game isn't nearly as bad as people claim if you understand how it works.

I would much rather have random MM. Any sort of rating system quickly leads to a myriad of whining topics about someone's rank is too high/too low, disconnects, "smurf" accounts, balance issues, gear score vs player score, etc etc.
Random MM is the great equalizer. One match you might be on the suck team, next time you might be on the uber team. But it's all going to balance in the end.
Edit: To clarify, I meant random as far as player "skill". I think the MM should take into account tonnage as its main measurement of balance.

the not named tank game's MM is actually not that bad once you climb up to about tier 8, but i think thats more because the tanks themselves are more capable of dealing with tier 9 and 10s when they are low on the list and are enjoyably balanced when at the top of the list

Well we dont know what it will be like ... BUT I'm hoping it will be inherently better balanced.
Smaller mechs will not be useless like in WoT (All weapons hurt all mechs equally) ... so even if there are some huge mechs ...this will not have the unbalancing effect it does in WoT
