Hi there,
Recently I have gotten really into playing Mechwarriors with a buddy of mine. I am definitely more able to play it often than my friend, but we have noticed something about when we play together that can be rather frustrating, in fact, my friend rarely wants to play anymore because of it.
The issue we encounter is that we are Two (2) people who want to play together and enjoy the game, just like anyone else.
However. We find ourselves pitted against teams that are 4-12 man teams, while we get organized into the odd-ball group of mismatched groups.
We recently played a game where we were versus a fully organized group of 12 players part of a clan. It is no surprise to anybody, we lost badly and my friend decided then to play Kerbal Space Program instead, needless to say, it was not fun.
This is not a Now and Then thing either, this is frequent for any of us players who really just want to play this game with our friend, without the threat of being massacred by groups who are far more organized than we are, or even part of a group or organization.
TL:DR
Problem:
My Friend and I are 2 people who play together and find we are frequently matched up against teams who are 4+.
We are both tired of being put up against unlikely odds due to 2 players wanting to enjoy the game together.
Suggested Solution:
Teams of 2 or (maybe) 3 put into general pool, not Organized Matches.

I agree that a 2-man group would be fine to be put in pug que. They aren't really that much more organized than normal pugs anyways. If fairness is still an option then the matchmaker could make sure both teams have the same number of 2 mans.
3-man would have to be tested.....
The might have to allow some emergency pulls from the 2-mans if a group game needs 2 players and cannot find another working combo... (i.e. Those annoying 10-mans running around to stomp over every smaller group in their way... >_> )

I agree... a two man team can/should be grouped with PUGS.
Now, on a note of my inscurity... Can someone please verify that Teams "Do Not" get grouped with single PUG players?
I only play as a single player in PUGS... not by choice, it’s just I only play now and then and not on a regular basis.
Once in a while, one team slaughters the other and I have been just accepting that once in a while people just think alike and act as a good team. But I always suspect that the winning team were all on team speak and their opponents really had no chance. Can this happen? If so it needs to be fixed right now. It is totally unfair to put PUG players against Organized Teams.

Is there anyone else who might have a similar experience with this though? Thank you two for the response, but I certainly do not want to feel like this is something that only a few of us have a problem with.

I never did understand why groups of up to 4 got taken out of the Pugging queue. It was pretty balanced back when only one 4-Man was permitted per team. Perhaps a return to that model is in order with a tweak such that the MM will throw groups of 4 or less into either the solo or the group queue, depending on which has an available match first?
Frankly, it's not an issue for me when I drop with another pilot as a point. However, we are also pretty good at this game and can adapt enough that it's not an issue. The big problem, I think, is when you have newbs, unseasoned, or unskilled pilots dropping as a pair. They don't have the ability to overcome that disadvantage and so, for them, it becomes an issue.

I think we could put 2 man groups in pug matches.

You need to address the perspective of the 10-man groups, though.
If the match maker can't find another 12 to fight the first 12, then 10 is the next closest group. That 10-man group requires a 2-man to be added to complete the team.
12-mans are not invincible. Communication with the other group(s) in your team is necessary if you are playing in a smaller group.

But MUST you match the 2 people trying to enjoy the game with the 10 man vs a 12?
I think PUGS can fulfill this role as well. I never play 2 mans to out-perform the competition. It is always with a friend I am trying to introduce to the game.
I think 2 mans need to be a part of the PUG pool and if they happen to get matched with a 12, tough. However, it is aggravating to always get stomped because the organized groups are going up against rag-tags of Pairs and Threes.
I've never been able to successfully get a friend to play this game with me because of this.
